rotaryRx is in Albuquerque, New Mexico, my hometown. if you want to know more about the shop, go to http://www.rotaryrx.com

Thanks for the compliments on the wagon, as soon as i saw it, i knew i had to have it. they are really rare, mine is the only one i have ever seen in real life or for sale for that matter. i got a REALLY sweet deal on mine. . .$2K. it was in canada and my friend went and drove it back for me. it still runs fine with the 12A that's in it, racing beat header, dual distributors (old school sh*t), magnaflow exhaust. i can't wait til i'm beating up on mustangs and corvettes and what not in it.

more pics of progress

so the motor has been pulled from the front clip and from the wagon. the auto tranny is much too large, so i'm selling it and going with a series 5 turbo II tranny. the suspension from the front clip has the exact same bolt pattern as is on the wagon right now, so i'm going to bolt it up and then weld some L-brackets off of the wagon's soon to be rebuilt frame to match up with the bolts that secured the subframe to the front clip.

i've heard that the stock ecu doesn't like to work if you don't use EVERYTHING from the cosmo (emissions crap, auto tranny, etc) can anyone verify this? if so, i'm definitely going to go aem or microtech immediately. anyone know where to get either for a good deal? anyone familiar with either system on a 20b? pros and cons of each would be greatly appreciated. thanks

It can be done with some fancy electrical work, but it's generally not considered to be worth the trouble.

Microtech has many more successful 20B's under it's belt than AEM. However, I think it is best to buy whatever EMS comes with local support, as these things have their own unique quirks that are not easily addressed via a long distance phone call or internet forum.

mounting the front sub-frame

so i was thinking about how i was gonna mount up the front sub-frame, and i realized that my previously devised method of simply bolting up the front clips suspension to the wagon's strut tower brackets would cause the wheels to butterfly out pretty ridiculously. . .to fix that i'm going to need to cut out a section from the center of the subframe so that the shocks on the front clip will have the same angle between themselves and the ground as in the cosmo. doing this will assure the same ride characteristics as the cosmo except for the narrower front track obviously.

does anyone know the distance from center to center of the strut tower brackets in the cosmo. . .if it makes a difference, the 92 cosmo. Thanks

Couldnt you just get a front cover that has the engine mounts on it like the stock RX3 had so it could just bolt right in? Im not sure how much room that would leave up against the fire wall but if you could just bolt on a new front cover and go that seems like a very simple way of doing it. Im at least hoping thats an option because thats what I would like to do with my RX2.

you could do that, and i considered doing that, but then i would be stuck with the stock Rx-3 suspension and brake options. also, you'd probably have to reinforce the front cross-member because it looks really flimsy compared to the engine cradle in the cosmo.

about my earlier question (distance from strut tower center to center), nevermind. i was thinking about the way the angle between the shock and the ground affects camber the wrong way, i will be able to go with my original plan of bolting up the suspension to the wagon, and then welding a few brackets to bolt on the rest of the subrame, thereby maintaining the cosmo's double-wishbone suspension and shocks and engine cradle.

does anyone know anyone who wants the transmission, torque converter, and shifter from my front clip? it's in real good shape. thanks

Im sure the cross member would have to be reinforced but it seems easier than fabricating the suspension from the cosmo onto the RX3 chassis. Im sure you can find good suspension and brake upgrades for the RX3. Im going to try and use the front cover method for my RX2. Its an old track racer so Im just going to freshen up the brakes and suspension that it already has and be done with it.
