Your/My first car.

Looking back on it and reading threads I realize I got taken for the price I paid for my first 1st gen. It was my first car and I was so happy to find one, and I had the money I had been saving I jumped at it. Don't get me wrong the car was in maybe 8/10 shape. But I paid too much for my first car.

Any one else find that they paid too much for their first car? Was your first car a Rx?

The first car I bought was my 82 RX-7 for $500. Probably 2/10 shape seeing as its still not on the road even after 3 years and about $5000 worth of work. The first car that was mine was a 1988 Buick LeSabre coupe that my parents gave to me.

First car was a 96 Plymouth Neon. I paid for my FB all on my own and looking back I paid too much. It didn't run but was in easily 8.5/10. Paid $750

My first was a 72 Chevy Nova 2 door(non SS),with a 250 cu in straight six,and Three-on-the-tree.It was fun,and at $250 I probably overpaid for it,but it was a cool car,and I miss it.I passed it on to my younger brother, and it came to an untimely death after meeting up with all things but a Geo Storm.

My first RX-7 was a 83 LE that I paid $800 for,and it needed a clutch, and so much more.I probably spent close to $4000 over the years on restoring it,and now it is a stack of parts, and is sitting in my back yard waiting to be strippd more, and sent off to the crusher due to some serious chassis rott.

I paid $700.00 for my 57 chevy and $750.00 for my 68 nova. $4000.00 for my 1st fb and no it was not too much for any of them. When you start thinking you paid too much then it takes all the fun out of it. Would you rather have paid $20-$30k for a new car that loses $4-5k when you drive it off the showroom floor?

Built my first car at 14. Made with a ladder chassis and all parts from a junkyard. The body was made out of alloy ice cream signs on a wood frame, and components from a motor cycle. Open with no doors and motor cycle windscreens. Total cost of my new car was under $100. Local policeman loved driving it, and passed the car as roadworthy and approved registration. Never kept a photo, but it looked like a Lotus 6.

My first rx7 I way over paid on. I paid 2100 because I thought buying it off of old people who supposedly took great care of it was an awesome deal for one that supposedly only needed paint. I shortly there after realized that the engine leaked oil from where the housings met iron because it sat for so long, and then finding out there was major rust in the rear fenders. Of course I wasn't a member of the club then, otherwise I would have known to look. I had nothing but problems with that car after I bought it. I bought another one with a tad over 110k miles on it for 1,400 where the body had a bit of rust, and had its little problems, but that thing has been the best car I could ask for. I replaced the carb, the starter went out on it thanks to the stock carb needing a ton of work, but other than that its been a champ. Did I over pay for that one? Considering how strong the engine and transmission are in it, I wouldn't say so. A lot of you would say I did though.

Here is a photo of me with my first car. I don't know what it cost - it was given to me.

I recently sent this photo to a guy on the web who specializes in these things, and he said in really nice restored condition it would be worth about $6-8k. Wish I still had it!

1982 Mazda RX-7, in about 9/10 of shape (nothings ever perfect), but it didn't run. I spent $1000 on it after finding it behind a gas station locally. Its been almost a year (it will be a year on October) and it should be able to hit the road by then.

It started off as needing a carb, and then it turned into other things. But at least the body is amazing.

first car was a 99 cavalier z24 back in 99. Dad got it for me, I ended up getting caught in an ice storm, lost control, and freaked out. Ending up resting the car in a ditch on its side, totalling it.

Second car was an 89 Z24 with a 3.1v6 swapped into it. Never wrecked it, drove it all through highschool.

For Graduation in 02, I got a 00 Eclipse GT, drove it from July to March of the next following year. I ended up totalling it out because of my own carelessness.

Next on the list was a 00 Cavalier z24 which I drove as a daily up until July of this year. (Guess you can see what kind of car my Dad thought was a good driver huh?)

During the time of the 00 Cavalier, I bought a 87 RX-7 auto. with 78k on it for $500. I drove it for a while, and decided I needed a turbo II. I sold it to Low Impedence on this forum. Most of its parts have gone to his Turbo II, which he no longer has.

The same day I sold the Red 87, I picked up a black 88 TII from Cloead for $3k. Car was in decent shape mechanically, body had a lot of dents. This car was a lot of fun since my buddy has a 88 10th AE and we would drive around like *** hats.

Drove it for a while, and lost compression on the rear rotor. (or at least Im pretty sure thats what happened). Sold it for a little less than what I paid for it ($2200). As far as I know, the car is still sitting, waiting for someone to get it going again.

This July I sold the 00 Cavalier, and bought a 05 Cobalt SS Supercharged for a real good deal. Currently considering selling it, and getting another RX-7, and then a cheap daily driver.

Chris~

My first car is the SA I own now. It's great!! I get tons of compliments from people at school and just everywhere I go. Plus it's an absolute BLAST to drive. I got it for $500, but it was rusted BADLY, needed paint, interior bits, and it didn't run. I'd say about a 2/10. Now, with the engine being rebuilt, I'd rate it at a 8.5/10- and getting better and better!

when i got it:
