ive had so many of these things over the years, that my last few have been regret free.

i have made some mistakes along the way though....

1. header and stock muffler, its just loud and tinny....

2. bought a car with a panhard, and no interior, it handled great, but it was loud and slow on the street.

3. restoring a crashed gsl-se. had the frame pulled out, and the radiator support replaced. it turned out really really nice, but it was a lot of work, and there were lots of hidden things broken.

4. selling my black gsl-se, its the terror of highway 9, it has no problem with s2000's going up, and coming down, it keeps up with a 380hp FD. i didnt know what i had

5. i'm about to regret putting a PP engine in a race car and trying to drive it to sevenstock =)

My most regretted mod was using a GSL-SE fuel tank when I went turbo injected. I couldn't corner hard below 1/3 tank. I recently installed a surge tank, and no more problems.

biggest regret is buying a car from someone that thinks he is a "tunner"
is like triying to straighteting a rippled potato chip something always breaks....
after you try to fix it...
moral of story:
buy stock and mod as you please..
PS
secondaries (love them sneak up on young honda drivers "vtec yo!"

I see where youre coming from. i dont like to do things you cant take back. I have yet to mount a rear spoiler just for this reason. One thing though, you can always fill the holes with a welder. So i will be eventually mounting a rear spoiler.

Also, I would have gone much milder on my setup. A straight S5TII swap like Steve (84GSTII) would have been plenty, with a 60-1 turbo, and stock ECU.

For the amount of driving I get to do on the car, it would have been fine, and still smoke 90% of the cars out there.
ot really surprises me to see you say this, but i can fully see where youre coming from. I have been researchinig and trying to figure out what motor set up i want to put in my SA. It has been between the S5 or S6. The S6 has greater potential for higher power, but do i really want/need that? Steve's car has been a set up that i cant seem to turn away from. I would add a little more to it as mine isnt a DD, but good power, reliabilty, cheap build. its hard to go another route.

i think with seeing these statments from you, the other persons car i looked up to. I was debating a route similar to steve or you. so this makes me want to go ahead with the S5 set up.

on regards to the rearend. i have also been doing a lot of research on that also. you loose to much due to the weiht of the 8.8 or 9 rearend. i have a SE housing with moser axles. itll be good to a certain point. i think ive decided if i HAVE to go to a bigger rearend ill go with a toyota 8" rearend.

One good thing about this is that you now own the best set of stock replacement sprinsg made for our cars that are no long available. I too bought a set right before they were discontinued. I also have a full respeed coil over set up, im just waiting on springs. ill keep the eibacks though cause theyre a great spring set up.

Agreed the Eibach springs are a great set of drop in springs, I wouldn't trade them for much, I really like them.
I agree, Steve's setup is very nice for a street car. I have a lesser version of his swap and love it. Mine is a stock port S5 T2 with a Knightsports T04B hybrid turbo. I tried to copy Steves setup as much as possible, stock ECU, FC in tank style fuel pump etc....
I gotta say I'm not sure happy with the Panhard bar and Tri link I put on that car though... way too loud

you guys should respect the hell out of DF for posting that, and then go build a car that YOU think is FUN, weather its got a big dyno sheet or not.

In addition to the weight, the power loss in the 9" is very high. If you have a lot of HP, it's a good strong unit -- if you don't have much power, it'll suck the little bit you do have.

I don't really have any regrets other than getting an Edelbrock 600 that I never ended up actually using. Traded it for a 45 DCOE, which I love at full throttle, hate at cruise because my fuel system sucks and makes it have terrible surging. But that will be fixed soon enough, I hope. However, if I ever get another two-barrel carb, it'll be a 48 IDA. The wraparound sidedraft manifolds are a PITA to deal with.

Not that there's anything wrong with Edelbrocks, either. Jeff's supercharged FB is one of the smoothest carbed 7s I've ever driven.

On a side note, how much power can those Moser axles realistically handle, anyway?

That's what I would have done in hindsight. Hell, just about eveything from Respeed too.

I have a 84 GSL rear and housing with Moser axles behind my T2 swap and so far so good.
So Directfreak are you planning on "de-tuning" your car or are you just saying if you were to start over you wouldn't have gone as far? Just throwing this out there, your car is like an icon on here Watching the vids you made helped me decide to go turbo on my car....

Damn! I just bought some FD seats for my 85, but haven't figured out how to mount them yet. What was it that you didn't like about them?

Also, if you can offer any guidance on installation I might still give it a shot because my current seats are all shot to hell and kill my back.

My biggest mod regret is myself. I didnt have much for a "plan of action" so I ended up re-doing a bunch of things and ended up costing me a whole lot more than I really needed to pay. Live and learn.

beaded seat cover

sure looked like a good idea, but it made the back of my shirts look dimpled, tore up the seat fabric, and rose the driver's center of gravity

What if you've undone a most regretted mod? Does it still count in the end?

Well I'm planning on doing just that. The streetported engine will be ripped from the white REPU and will be replaced by a functioning 6 port for all the benefits and none of the drawbacks. Plus it will have low end torque. Yes, actual low end torque like it used to have before the streetport! I'm so excited!
