He is trying to scare you out of having a sports car, my parents did the same thing.

I pay $1794 a year for my 2004 RX8, and my 1988 RX7 GTU.

Edit: And my price will soon be going down, as I am swapping the '88 GTU for my '85 GS.

Note: I'm 16.

when your dad says something like it's usually a clue for you that he just doesn't want to deal with you having future headaches w/ a car like the 1st gen.

you just have to read through the lines your dad's saying.

Adrock3217, You have an rx8 and your sixteen? Is it ours or your parents? God blessed you. I don't know what it'll will be like for 1 year, but my insurance is goig to be like $250 or something and i have to pay half. Thats for one month to let you know. I'm 15, but the insurance is in my dads name, so its way cheaper.

it depends on your insurance company, and where you live. Your occupation can also have an impact when you get older. also, insurance rates can fluctuate greatly from one year to another. and i think the difference generally falls on younger people to pick up the slack. when i was around 19 my insurace was around $190/mo then it went down to one 160 then back up. then down to around $125 when i was 22. that was with state farm. I switched to nationwide about a year ago and i have my volvo wagon and rx-7 for $116/mo. I'm 24 now.

When I had my Jeep and my rx7 on the road at the same time I was only paying 88 dollars a month.

Now I am paying 47 a month for just my rx7.

I am 22 by the way.

I pay about 900 a year for 3 vehicles but I'm a bit older than 25.

Its all based on stats and the stats show that when your under 25 the odds that you'll cost the insurance company money are high, so they charge you a premium until you hit 25, get married, hit 35, have kids (that don't drive), hit 40, etc. Also, tickets will cost you as well.

When I was younger I shopped around each year to make sure I was always getting the cheapest insurance. If you don't have a loan you can just get the legal minimums and push your deductible up to like 500 bucks, that will make a huge difference.

With these cars collision/comp is not worth it because of their age. Over the year you'll end up paying more in insurance than the car is worth.

I'm 19 so my insurance rate hasn't dropped that much since I was 16.

I used to bay $600 something every 6 months when I was younger.

The easier to manage way to do it is to by monthly, its so much better to now pay $100 a month instead of getting a $600 bill every few months.

I work for an Allstate agency in texas got bored one day I ran a quote for myself, turned out to be 70.43 for six months on my 85 GSL. Mind you thats with Liability only set at 20/40/15(state minimum) I don't see much reason to set it higher or have the other coverages because insurance companies will not pay what I have invested in it if it's wrecked. Better to take what I can get and start fresh. Really, it all depends on your record. Here if you can prove six months of previous insurance and you don't hit every car you see, you can get a pretty good rate.

First post too by the way(newbie)

im 19 and my insurance is under my parents account. i pay around $350 every 6 months for liability on my 85 GSL. it was the same for my old DD, 94 accord. i plan on dropping it to the state minimum though and getting it a little lower. i have to insure my 80 soon. i plan on shopping around at that time to see if i can get a better rate, but i doubt ill leave from being under my parents.

also, i have a clean driving record. i have kept a 27 over ticket completely off my record. had a wreckless driving ticket changed to a parking ticket, expensive parking ticket. i have to go to court this friday to use the system to screw the system to keep a 15 over ticket off my record. the odd thing, i got all the tickets in my all stock accord. never got a ticket in any of my rx7s. hondas are cop magnets here.

I'm 17 and pay about 2200 a year for mine. And yes, I pay for it. It sucks, but it's worth it.
