i rebuilt my nikki with just a shop manual and sterlings site. took over 300 pictures. and labeled everything. its not hard to do.

plus there are so many variations of nikkis, that if someone did actually take the time to make a video to spoon feed all the people too lazy to dive into it for themselves, it would be less than 3 days before someone was whining because they're carb didn't match up exactly

a video of this seems irrelevant. if you aren't able to successfully rebuild a carb with the wealth of information already available. a video wont help you.

not really, the nikki rebuilds i did in the past were almost giveaways. as i mentioned it takes nearly a full day to do the job right, doing it twice isn't an option or you definitely lose and look like a ******* on top of it all.

they really are not all that complicated. simply use some form of table to layout everything in order, take pictures, mark things, write jet sizes and locations down on the carb sheet, etc. it is just time consuming, that is all. i was not intimidated at all doing my first rebuild on one of these carbs, they are just very cluttered.

all i'm really saying is this thread seems like whining/begging. there's already writeups with pictures.

I don't think the problem is the ability to rebuild the carb. properly so much as it's the ability to recognize a problem with it and trouble shoot in the process of the rebuild. Unfortunately you can't teach this in a video, you have to read and research how everything works.

BURNED
Figuratively and Literally..

Take-7, what set it ablaze, and how much damage was done? Sounds like it got the rental house too... If you have any salvagable parts, the classifieds section is a great way to make a pretty penny, especially in a situation like yours. Pics?

no pics, i did assess the damage today, not as bad as i thought. just scorched the ac line (who cares i gutted that anyways) and it got a vacuum hose to the carb. the fire apperently started from the intake/thermal reactor area. i can see gas dribble down the reactor when i turn it over long enough (without spark plugs. i'm stupid, but not stupid twice.) i haven't pulled the exhaust/thermal reactor/ heat exchanger apart yet. i can't see the gas dribbling from anywhere on the carb though???
as a side note the garage was ok. landlord got a call from neighbor who blew story out of proportion. wife says keep car. all is ok in the land of sa22c's again.

If you have fuel leaking out of the TR, you have way more probs than just a fuel leak to track down. Seriously...has to be from the carb, one place mine (an 83, but still similar enough) was to start leaking from the accelerator pump (on drivers side of carb towards the rear) Look for a square metal plate with a lever coming out of it with 4 screws holding it on, its about an inch square. It may only leak when the gas pedal is pressed, so may be hard to find without someone sitting in the car pushing the pedal (should be no need for car to be running to do this check) while you look. for leaks. If it leaks, gas will get on the heat deflector thingie (plate where all the vacuum lines hook) below the carb and could theoretically find its way around to the TR side of the motor, and drip off below the carb..... Get ya a good small flashlight and go all around the carb looking, the flashlight will help you see a "drip" easier as it falls.....

Agreed, accelerator pump leaks can be kind of common. I just fixed my third one. They can leave quite a puddle of gas on the heat deflector to slosh around. There are however a few other members who are currently describing fires from fuel leaking inside the thermal reactor. The perception is, its leaking internally somehow. It always hard to diagnose someones problem from descriptions of what think they see, but to me, the odds say its an external carburator leak that may be working its way in. Here's a link you may want to follow;

Fuel fires can turn into serious business in a blink. Gets your full attention, especially when it's your beloved thats spewing flames.

Tiny chance that a really bad exhaust mani gasket, coupled with a flooding carb, could get fuel coming out the bottom of the TR/housing junction. It'd be a rarity, but it's conceivable.

You blasphemed members of the forum and the rotary gods spoke!

An accel pump leak would be very small, I would think. Maybe enough for a quick flash fire but nothing continuous. It's likely that fuel overflowed the bowls, which is usually a vent problem.

If you just rebuilt it, over-tightening of the banjo bolts on the fuel lines can strip the threads and cause a leak there.

When i first got my 83 the accelerator pump was leaking....started as a drip here and there, and quickly ended up being a semi constant drip, enough where it had me worried to even crank the car, because it would continue to leak even when not running, and i was scared it was going to settle somewhere and get hot and catch on fire..that was the biggest reason i started my rebuild project on the carb immeadiately after buying the car....me dont like no fires....
