I am offering $150 dollars to the person that can fix my rex. I believe it is something to do with the fuel flow or timing. I do not have time to finish the mechanics on the car (work, night school, three kids under 3, moving). I want my baby back on the road. She runs at idle, nice and smooth, but if I touch the throttle it chokes out. If I ease the throttle I can get it to 3k and it will start to break up and kick and choke. This is an 84 gs with an 85 motor, no emisssions, rb header w/ strait pipes, high flow fuel pump w/ holley regulator, fusible link upgrade.

please help

peace

First things first - replace the fuel filter if it's more than a couple months old.

9 times out of 10, that's the problem.

Make sure the leading ignition is working. If the trailing was dead, the engine'd run fine but the tach would be dead, and with factory wiring the fuel pump would stop running. With the leading dead/trailing working, the engine will generally run like crap but idle OK.

After that, check the float levels (Holleys are nice in that you set the float without having to take them apart - no guesswork at all).

Pull your fuel line off your carb, put it in something, and start your car.... see how much fuel runs out, there should be quite a bit.

Ok, I still have the stock Nikki carb and everything from the fuel filter to the battery cables are new. The fuel level stays constant 1/2 way up the sight glass. I have swapped the carb and it idled up to about 800rpm and it spits and sputter at idle, wants to die when accelerator is depressed, then catches and revs beautifully. when shifting from 1 to 2 gear it bucks and shakes the whole car like Im in the wrong gear.

thanks for everything so far, keep it coming

peace
