yet another flywheel question by me.

ok.... my last flywheel question was about a s5 turbo2 motor and a S4 N/A trans.

we all came to the conclusion that i would need the S5 Auto counter weight and an aftermarket flywheel...

well i got my hands on a S5 TII trans so i didnt need that....

turns out the trans is garbage. any whoo.. to top it off the shiping yard could not get in a S5 motor they got in an S4 so i got that.

now... i have an S4 TII and a good S4 N/A tanny.

i know its counter weight goes with the motor, flywheel goes with the tranny... so, would i use the S4 auto couterwight(i have) with an aftermarket fly wheel. or can i just use the S4 flywheel i have since its an S4. it will it not work because its counterweight is for a N/A not a turbo...?

*question in a nut shell: can i use an S4 N/A flywheel on a S4 TII motor?*

If you are going to run a lightweight steel flywheel or lightweight aluminum flywheel you will need the automatic rear counter weight for the year engine you are using.
SO if you have a 1985 engine, then you will need a rear counter weight from a 1985 automatic transmission car.

the 12a groups are 1979-80, 1981-82 and 1983-85

ok, for stock fly wheels-you must use the fly wheel that goes with the engine. for turbo engines- if you use the stock fly wheel, you must use the TII tranny due to the larger input shaft on the tranny and the diameter of the clutch disk (its larger). for light weight fly wheels-you must use the counter weight for the correct engine. example- use an 84/84 12a auto counter weight with a 84/85 12a. or, 87/88 TII engine you must use the the 87/88 TII auto counter weight. now the tricky part.....light weight fly wheels- you can use any one you want! you can put a TII fly wheel on a 12a, n/a 13B or TII engine. but you must use a TII tranny with the TII diameter clutch. but, you can use a TII tranny with an N/A flywheel if you get a special clutch disk with the larger splinf for the TII tranny. so confused yet? here is more examples
38 12a+83 12a counter weight+TII light fly+TII clutch+ TII tranny= working drive train

89 n/a 13B+87 TII counter weight+n/a light fly+n/a clutch+n/a tranny=blown tranny and blown engine from vibration
did i help?

Seriously though, why not just see if they have the same part number from Mazda and just use a different counter weight? I mean, if theyre the same, then it will be the same part number, if theyre not, it will be different and theres a reason the number will be different .

ok so if im reading this right.... i can use my 88 TII motor, with my 88 TII auto Counterweight, AFTERMARKET FLYWHEEL, with my N/A 87 Trans= working drive train

yes no maybe so?

IF so.... can i get an aftermarket N/A flywheel like this one so i can use my 4 puck clutch and performance pressure plate?

lol... you know... i accualy never thought of that.

and for the person/s who are thinking why dosent he just get a TII tranny and get it over with.. welp i had one and it was junk, there hard to come by i would love one they are a lot stonger then an N/A i know that.

im puting my car back together and am running out of funds. so im trying to slow things down a bit. i know you can get a TII trans on the net for around $200 but shiping will be a bitch.

so i figure there is always a S4 N/A at the yards. i can get one on half off day for around $70 so if i blow the trans up eh... just have to replace.

*yes im aware my ethics are retarded... bare with me folks *

you got it! if you have a TII light fly wheel now, youll have to get an n/a one tho. jeremy at tweekit is a great guy, ive delt with him several times. he returns e-mail quickly and shipping is verry reasonable/fast.

that bad idle stuff is a myth! ive had the lightes flywheel i could find on all my cars, 12a and 13b carb, efi. they all idle fine, the only reason you wouldnt get a good idle is shitty tuning! get the lightest one you can!

seems to me you guys know TII motors pretty well as i do not ....i've got a question then, can i put a Turbo II driveline, (motor/tranny) out of an 1987 rx-7 SE into my 85 GSL? i just want the engine and tranny. is this possible? i didn't feel like searching hours on end for a yes/no answer. although i do need to know if i need anything else to make this possible. any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

yea thats a good site for general information.. in a few weeks i will be tackeling the challange of installing the stock TII wiring harness... i have both sides, i know i need all from the passenger side. but the one that goes on the driverside controles lights, dash and a bunch of other crap i dont need.. thats going to be a bitch to install.

also.. i hope i dont need the fuse box under the dash i did not get that. my assumption is that those fuses controle the dash and lights. and the fuses in under the hood controle CPU power and what not. :/

i will be posting eyecrossing, head spining, vomit enducing wiring questions soon.
