yet another 13b swap

Sorry for sounding dumb and all but this is my first experience with a 7. It is a kick in the *** fun though.

ok I got a 13b from a 86 rx7. my 12a out of my 95 GS was trashed by previous owner. I replace the front piece with the one off my 12a, done. motor is 6 port and I didn't want to go fuel injected so I got a upper manifod from mazdatrix.

everything is going great so far. I am confused by reading all the posts about the exhaust manifold and engine mounts. I am dislectic.

quesitons?

since the 13b is 1 inch bigger is there no other way of mounting it to the motor mounts than to by the bracket part#11832?

I have 2 exhaust manifolds. the 13B and the 12a. If i use the 13b manifold it hooks up fine but is a different angle going into the cat. The 12a goes into the cat but the bolts arn't the same. Do i drill new ones?

Thanks this forum has been good the last 2 months or so.

you dont need anything to drop the 13b in now. Once you have installed the front cover and oil pan from either gslse or other 12a(front cover only) you only have to notch the engine mount SE midpipe.......

You only need to notch the engine crossmember bar further forward to account for the longer engine. I dont think its 1inch either i think something like 10mm.

It's 20mm difference (10mm per rotor).

25.4mm=1"

Notch the bracket back 10mm and the engine mount holes in the crossmember forward 10mm. Then it drops straight in.

Yes. the angled engine brace-notch the slots 10mm forward. then remove the motor mounts and notch the crossmember 10mm back or vise versa.

almost done

thanks for the help all who posted.

almost done but kinda stuck on a few minor details. Again this is a 2nd gen 13b going into a 1st gen "1985"

there are two brass looking outlets on the firewall right above the manifold. The one on the right "where does it go"?

there is a pipe comming up from the cat where does it go?

thanks

the 2 brass things is an inlet and an outlet for your heater core the one on the passenger side goes to the radiator and the on the driver side goes to the block just under the oil filter. ( i took mine out).

for the exhaust mani you are going need to weld a custom exhaust that is the best route that is also what i did when i put in my 88 moter with 91 intake mani. i bought a Borla muffler from wicked nicky* (spelling) and got a cat from www.rx7club.com

The top line is the fuel supply, the bottom is the return.

Okay finally I get a good picture of a second gen 13B and the crossmember that bolts to the front cover.

Now I have a question. How hard would it be to move the cross member back to match the stock mounts for the S4 motor?

I am having trouble getting a GSL-Se Front cover and brace along with having hit my budget now...

I don't think you have a good picture.... Just use your 12A front cover and modify the 12A crossmember and cross-bar 10mm forward to fit a 13B.

I had thought about that, but isn't there way more involved in modifying the 12A cover to fit compared to the GSL-SE.

Though honestly I would rather just go the simple route and get a GSL-SE cover and member, but the sad truth of it is, GSL-SE parts aren't showing up in the junkyard and I already hit the budget for now... That's why I was curious if it was possible.

Just use a 12A front cover and block off the OMP and pre-mix. You dont need to modify anything on the cover itself. The only thing you need is some good tools to slot the cross-bar and crossmember.

So what do you reccomend I should do since I would rather use the omp out of pure laziness, rather than premixing...

Oi, I dragged this off topic... sorry.

tighten the 19mm bolt?

or did you overtighten and crack the fittings. did you install new crush washers?

so what exactly are you asking. the thermostat water sensor has a green rectangle plug that plugs into it looks just like the sesor its self.
