WTF another leak ??

Ok, I noticed on the left side on the side of my gas tank, after I removed the wheel, there's a round cover with 20 sum screws/bolts, I think that's my gas gage, anyway, there are two wires saudered there, the middle one is like loose, and it seems that the gas seeps out of there when I'm driving around...what can I use to fix that. The saudering is loose, can I use some kind of silicone...or maybe JB Weld...

Any advise or experience is appreciated.

Hey It's me again!

Crap man, that's not good.

Your guess is right. That is your fuel level sender. I just replaced mine. If it's leaking fuel from there, then it's got a hole in it. Since the new one is 1/4 inch thick with a rubber lining on the inside I'd say there's quite a bit of a problem there! Make sure that you're absolutely sure that the leak is coming from there. If it's leaking from there I'd say you have two options:

1. replace the fuel level sender. This is expensive as hell, like a hundred USD from mazdatrix. But this is the best way.

2. Yeah, if you have to jury-rig it, you can probably use jbweld. I don't know how well it would work in that area since there's metal AND plastic around there.. but I'd be willing to bet you that you'd have a hell of a time re-connecting your sender afterwards.

I s'pose you can do what the last person to work on my car's tank there did: connect the connector back on, then completely COVER the whole fuel level sender with about an inch thick covering/glob of silicon. (at least I think it was silicon). This would seem to be the best option. Silicon can be removed later if you want to put a new level sender in, and if you completely cover the area, it should stop small leaks.

Try it. Good luck

Jon
