And, the gas smell usually gets better, not worse, after removign the nest. Why? I really don't know O_O

so can somebody tell me what rats nest is? i'm assuming some sort emmisions bullshit thing.

this small block with multicolored solenoids and vacuum hoses going in and out of it, right of the engine.

I'm lucky enough that they dont do an emissions test, but every 2 years they do a visual inpsection to make sure everything is there
