Won't restart after warming up.

If you look at my signature I have a wierd combination. I had the motor rebuilt last fall because the oil rings were bad and it was blowing some smoke. I had it streetported and got it back and have been trying to keep it running ever since. What is new since last October?
Starter bosch
ddflis with gm hei
Grounds including a cable to go from housings to coils and post
wires- 8mm
coils- Msd blaster SS
Dist pickup coil
Diehard battery

Here's how the scenario goes.
New plugs today. Put em in it, fired right up. Runs like raped ape. Because I want to keep it from dying I have the idle up around 1800. As I check the timing and carb... as it starts to warm up I start to lower the idle. I checked the electrical system from, alt to neg cable and alt+ to pos cable is only milivolts, so my cables are good. And I want to be sure on this, since somebody walked off with my good timing light with advance on it, My timing mark is right around 11 oclock, correct? I checked the for vacuum leaks with brake clean and carb clean but no change to rpm. Vacuum is 16lbs, but not down to idle yet ,still aroung 1000 rpm. lowered the idle screw 1/4 turn and it died. IT WON"T RESTART??? Water temp is on 160, oil temp is 165... I tried ATF but no good. cranking it for 4-5 sec intervals I got off 4 times and the starter sounds sluggish. But the when I hook up the charger it reads 80 percent left.
Ideas please???
I'm going to try an intake gasket next, even though it doesn't sound like it's leaking?

Poor hot start is often a sign of low compression. It's a rebuilt engine but you never know. I would check that first and eliminate it.

THanks
That will be tonight. Can You use a regular piston compression tester?

Could be a timing issue, or an idle mixture issue. I'm not sure about the ground wire running to the coil though. I've never heard of that before, and since the ignition uses the negative wire to cut the flow to the coil and initiate the spark, I'm not sure but that might be messing you up too. Not sure about that though. Good luck!
