Won't idle and tach question

Hi there, I've just acquired a 79 in great shape outside, inside could use work.

I have a wrecked 84 GSL and I've already done the dizzy swap and got it running and firing correctly however I can't seem to keep it running and it seems like it's idleing quite high. (I've just printed out all the carb stuff from the FAQ page and will work out the bugs there and what not)

The tachometer won't read true. It's hooked up properly from the ignition coil and it turns to 13volts in the middle before cranking, bounces then she fires off and runs for awhile however the needle now stays all the wayover at 8 grand. Won't come back from that till I shut her off.

Don't know what to do bout this Lol.

Yeah cept I had to upgrade the other 6volt coil to a 12volt for the dizzy swap. I'll run the wire as far as I can and check for shorts. I mean I've poured over the electric diagrams for hours and it couldn't be simplier to me, I'll look for a short.

Are you sure the tach is on the correct side of the coil?

Yup double checked and triple checked it. That's why it's super odd to me. I'll look for a short tomorrow. Going to begin the carb rebuild as well.
