Um, you really shouldn't have to change the harness..

the 79 and 80 i believe are identical..

they are not identical. 79 had points dist, 80 is electric. alt is different between the two..
right now i have an 80 engine harness hooked up to a 79 engine bay harness, and it is creating a crap load of problems.
i either want to match the 80 engine harness with a engine bay harness from an 80, or move to a series 2 harness (both engine and bay) if i can without problems. my only concern there is that the 80's had external ignitors, while the 81-83 had internal ones in the dist.

You should be able to just wire up the electronic distributor for the 79.. My 79 has an electronic dist.. Unfortunatly it came that way so, i don't know exactly what was done..

well the problem is not with the dizzy (i am using the dizzy from my old 80). the problem is that since the harness do not match up, that the wiring goes crazy. like, because the alts are different between the 79 and 80 (i am using an 80) the signal does not feed back into my alt, and so when i try to shut my car off, nothing happens (i have to stall it to turn it off.).. also, none of the idiot lights work, the tac does not work, and my ignition is running through the hazard fuse (the hazard lights donot work either).. if i can get ahold of a digital camera, i will take pictures to show exactly where things go wrong..

So you have a 79 Block in your 80? and are using your 80's dizzy & alt?

Ok, not two tuff.. just a little re-wireing.. the 80 alternator & dizzy will work fine..

You are using you 79 wiring harness?

Take a pic.. and post it up here.. I can tell you how my 79 is.

My 79 has a 13B street port with a 82 dizzy and a 83 alternator..

i probably could have been more clear about this.. the block is a 13b out of a 78 rx4. the chassis is a 79. the dist and alt are an 80. the engine wiring harness is an 80, but the engine bay harness is a 79.

i just assumed that all of my electrical problems were from the wiring harness (which is in bad condition anyways). the biggest thing is that the connector between the two harnesses donot match, and i think that that is where the trouble is. so i figured, rather than try to rewire that, it would be easier just to swap the harness...

i will take pictures as soon as i can

Yeah, swaping in an 80 harness would be the easyest.. since the accessories are from an 80..

But you really shouldn't even need to do that if you are decent at wireing

The wireing on a 1st gen is pretty simple.. just need to find a wireing diagram.. Do you have a hays manual or something?
