Wireing harness swap?

I was wondering if anyone knows if a full wiring harness will swap from an 85 to a 83.
I have a line on a car for free with a blown motor and a burnt wiring harness.
The car has no rust and has a new paint job as of a couple years ago. My buddy said the motor use to fire up but its on 1 rotor and said last time he tried to start it the wiring harness lit on fire. I have to look to see the extent of the damage but i figured I have a good woring harness in my rust bucket but would it swap over?

I'd suggest it would. I found out the hard way there were quite a few changes between S1(79-80) and S2(81-83) when fitting the latter into our '79.

So much so that I had to fit the 81 steering box and column to use the 81 wiring loom.

Similiar deal, we were given a bare 79 shell and used a wrecked 81 to make one out of the two.

The Haynes manual suggests an 85 wiring loom may not fit if it was from and EFI13b, but looks to be very similar if it was a 12a carby version.

Hope this helps

on the 83' i belive they had the 81-82 harness although they had the same engine set up as an 84-85. i know the wires for the motor come in on the passenger side for 84-85 and on the drivers side 79-83 i am not sure what else goes through there.

well I think I am going to put the whole interior of the 85 into the 83. The interior and the wiring are buchered.

If by full interior you mean ECU, and all related other components (not just the wiring itself) along with the dash, then yeah youre good. May have to cut a hole in the firewall though for the new wiring to come through for the engine harness.
