question. on the engine harness ( the one with the big flat black plug by brake master cyl) what all wires do i need that run down by the oil pan? there are 4 one wire connectors there and i only know the two that plug into the sensors on the oil pan. Any one know what they are for? Ill post a pic as soon as I can.

The ones im trying to figure out what they go to, if anything, are in the same harness as the oil pan wires. There are two other wires that go down around the same area, both single wire one plug. Any ideas? I was going to take a pic this morning but was late for work

ill post up a pic of the mystery wires tonight
Ive been thinking... (uh-0h) origionally i was going to put the FC coil on the drivers side strut tower. This will work fine and be easy to do. The problem with that is that it looks like crap sitting there, and the wires wont be able to be totally hidden since right on the other side of the strut tower is the suspension spring. The problem is that I cant decide on where to put it
Question:
Would the FC coil get too hot if it was mounted on top of the engine?

sorry, no pic. I literally didnt feel like doing any actual work last night, so i didnt What I did do, was pull my turbo timer off of the shelf so i can wire that in before the dash goes back in. The three wires hook to the ignition to shut the car off a set time after the key is shut off. The three wires hook to IG1, IG2, and 12+ constant. Can someone check and see what wire on the ignition switch is 12v+ constant for me? That would be awesome! I would do it myself, but i have a small wiring issue right now...

On my trans the only wires are two that hook to im guessing the reverse switch, they are bullet tybe connectors. Then out of that same sub harness is the wire that goes to the starter i believe. Ill have to check that to make sure. Where the sub harness to the trans plugs in at on the pass side harness is a 6 wire connector.

The 12v signal to the starter just a female spade connector right? The only wires to the trans itself are the two for the reverse switch, then i have a single female spade to the starter (not counting the main battery cable lol) On the engine I have the ignitor/dizzy wires, alt wires, choke temp wire, one single wire to the the nikki carb, one wire for the crystal on top of the engine, one to the oil pressure sending unit and two single wires to the engine pan. Sound right to you? I simplified the engine harness 6 months ago and kindof forgot.... sorry for all the wiring questions lol

yep, the one female bullet that goes to the rad i left with the headlight stuff. I now feel much better in knowing that i have everything right. There were a few wires that were mystery ones, i knew 95% didnt go to anything, so i took em out. Good thing i guessed right! haha Tons of work getting done tonight and over the weekend! The woman works a double tomorrow and is going to a friends all night... So im thinking a case of yuengling, tons of sandpaper, and some one on one with the old girl in the garage. who knows, might be ready for paint saturday.... key word there "might" haha
Thank you guys for all the help and words of encouragement!

yeah, im definitely not going to miss the sanding! I welded a patch in the bay last night. I didnt take any pics of the hole i dont thing, but drivers side strut tower all the way at the bottom was rotted out. Ill have a pic of the finished product and the template i made for the hole. I did a little sanding last night, but nothing to really update about lol tons of work getting done tonight though.

You can certainly mount the coil on the engine. Mazda even went as far as putting threaded holes on the top to use bolts. Looks pretty good in my opinion too. Although i went ahead and put some heat reflective material on a piece of stainless to act as a mount/heat shield. The only problem is then you have things adding onto the top of the engine, which looks cleaner as few parts hanging off or sitting on it as possible.

rip everything out and just start with a Painless Wiring Kit instead.
*sigh*
