Just spend the ~200 bucks and get a beater. Your car will thank you and you will thank yourself when your driving your 7 next year.

What's a winter tire??? jk

Couldn't resist--since we effectively don't have winters here in Houston. I'm from Chicago so yea I know what you mean.

Yea I'd get a beater, that road salt is gonna eat the living crap out of your car--trust me, I know. Mines been in Texas 20 years and not a lick of rust--gotta love it.

good god salt is bad but its not like its gonna eat your car the second its on just wash it regularly underneath everywhere regularly through the winter and it will be fine. and make sure you buy a good ice tire they work the best ...... dunlop graspic 2's are amazing and they are a great price most places. but thats just my 2 cents from living in canada and working at a tire store lol

With out a doubt the Blizzak, since you can not afford a beater I would think it is worth it to you not to smash your beloved car. With out the extra weight you need a really good tire and they are it!

i have hankook zuvacs or something like that, they work great, the fb is a decnet winter car. I made it though a winter with just all seasons on it, but the winter tires are a nice touch. As long as the car isn't stuck in a bank it'll go, i tried to get it stuck last winter, wouldn't happen. good stuff...

Nokian Hakkas. They grip awesome, and unlike the Blizzaks, they grip for more then one season. Blizzaks are made with two different compounds, the outer layer is a thin, soft one, that grips well in the snow (better then most other tires). Once that is gone (usually the first season if you like to have fun), they are just a decent all-season. The newest Hakkas, the RSi, looks like it should be a great tire, and there is enough tread to last four or five winters, easily.

We run winter rallies and winter rallycrosses here, and the only people running Blizzaks are the ones who can afford to buy a couple sets a season. Most guys are on Hakkas.

Make sure you get your car up on a lift and touch up any undercoating that needs it. Then, apply a heavy coat of wax to the inside of the wheel wells and leave it there. This won't stop rust, but it will sure slow it down some.
