Windshield Adhesive
I'm starting to get paranoid about my good windshield glass in my parts car, as the parts car is parked in a remote location and the glass is the only usable part left. I've decided it's time to retrieve my windshield and call the parts car stripped.
My dad restored an El Camino recently, and he used a strip of tape like adhesive to seal his windshield. Does the Rx7 use the same thing? If so what size? If not, which of the products that Amazon recommends for windshield replacement is the right one? Is the adhesive the same for the little triangle rear windows?
Thanks.

windshield in mine (80 SA) is just black silicone sealer, gun administered. Now the OE glass "might" have been stuck in with a beaded silicone "frame", but it should come out the same way: run a tool under the seal (and of course, glass shops have special tools, but these are available). The trick is not to crack the glass as you pull it away from the seal.
I would do one of 2 things:
1) go to a glass shop and ask them how its done and show you the tools or
2) got to Youtube: betting there are DOZENS of how-2 windshield removal vids there.
There is nothing secret about how RX7 glass is laid in. Very auto-standard install.
Install is by running a bead around the frame and pressing the glass in place.
Rear hatch side glass:
-same BUT it is also held in by THREE nuts, 2 at the front, one at the back/rear. Access inside the hatch once the interior covers are removed...
Biggest thing here is to find correct tool to cut adhesive seal...

I use .030" mig wire and two 1" wood dowels as handles. Take a small awl and poke through the seal, then feed the wire through. Use the handles and wire to "saw" through the old seal. (helps to have two people). I have never broken a windshield by removal.
Get some stuff like this. (and primer if you cut/nick the paint)
3M Auto Glass Urethane Windshield Adhesive 10.5 fluid ounce cartridge 08693
Download the 1980 FSM (clearest pictures) and in the body section it has the procedure on how to R&R the glass .
