windows falling out

On my '85 GSL-SE, the window regulators appear to be badly worn - if you close the doors with the windows anyplace but all the way up, they come out of the tracks and you have to remove the door panel, take out the front track mounting bolt, and put it back. Anyone found a way to tighten this linkage up without having to buy the whole new part?
Thanks!

Well, I found a solution this weekend, although it is probably a temporary one. Looking at what was going on, I finally realized that the window rocks down at the front as it lowers, making it 'shorter' so that it doesn't go into the front track anymore. I took the mechanism out of the door, and found that there was a lot of play in the pivot points. I was contemplating making new pins to hold the rollers, replacing or bushing the little nylon rollers, etc. when I realized one major part of the slack was from the pins rocking back and forth. I held the whole mechanism over the vise with the pin over the flat part of the vise and whacked it smartly with a good-size ball pein hammer a few times, and Hey! it works. I greased it up real good, and I'm hoping it lasts. Since Sept. 11th, we now have a guard gate coming on to the company campus, and I have to roll the window down every morning to show my employee ID. - too embarassing to open the door and reach over!
