Question Will these tires fit?

I have access to a set of 225/50/16's... problem is that I am not sure if they will fit on my 83 GSL....

Any suggestions? Will I have to do something in order to have them fit? SHould I get them?

Thanks guys...

they will fit if you get different rims and coilovers or wheel spacers. buying the right size tire will be cheaper but 16" rims with coilovers would be cooler

What are coil overs? I am going to be getting a set of 16" rims soon (in the spring)

And how about wheel spacers? Where can I get those?

Any help would be appreciated!

Also, the tires are being given to me, so I was wondering since they are free, what sort of work I was looking at to get them on...

Thanks!

Typically, you can't put tires bigger than 205 in the front. I have heard that 225's will fit in the rear but have never seen them.
Coilovers are a spring and strut kit that are made as a single self contained unit insted of two seperate peices. The spring coil is mounted over the strut hence the name coilover. These are used for a high performance handling upgrade but as a side effect they free up a little space in the wheel well so you can mount bigger tires. You can check out coilovers hear http://www.ground-control.com/

Wheel spacers are just that. spacers that you use between the hub and the wheel to correct offset of the rim so that you can use a larger tire and/or rim. They are generally thought of as a band aid and are not the proper way to get bigger rubber under your car. You can usually find these at performance wheel shops.

I think even if you can get them to fit they will stick out of the fender wells, and you don't want that do you?

Good luck,
Mike

actually, i knew a gent who put 245's on the back of his '83... still 205's up front. they were on the original 4 spoke 13 inch rims..... looked just a wee bit funny to me with all that tire sticking out..

I have had 235/60/14 in the back of my -se without rubbing ( previous owner did autocross), then i went to 225/60/14 and no problems again but i did get the lip of the fender rolled later on before upgrading my wheels to 205/16/45 all around which have no problem at all of rubbing.

I'm running 205/55R16 tires all around. I think you can get the 225/50's into the rear with just the right wheel, but I don't think you will be able to stuff them under the front. I had to move the spring perch up the strut tube to get the 205's on, and they just barely clear everywhere... also killed the turning radius, they hit the sway bar.
