Will this COOL down the engine ?

Ok my dad and I just replaced the old stock fan with an Electric fan kit from victoria british. My dad didnt understand the instructions and we ended up building a frame to mount the fan on rather than mounting directly on to the radiator. So there is about 2 inches or more of space between the fan and the radiator. The fan sure blows the air fine has a nice solid wind. I was worried that maybe my car wont be cooled properly now

Its a massive fan but sure is a nice one! and takes the load off the engine! It has a adjustable thermostat etc., and kicks on when the engine reaches a certain temperature.

As long as it's shrouded so that it can't recirculate the air instead of pulling it through the radiator, a fan will always be more effective if it's a bit away from the radiator.

If the fan doesnt have a bult-in shroud, the closer the better. You want the air to go directly through the fins for better cooling. Unlike the junkyard fans, say as in Fiero and taurus, they have a built-in fan shroud that works like a funnel.

$161.85 for everything they offer to go with the fan kit. The kit itself is $129.95, the thermostat is $24.95, and some sort of quick re-install kit is $6.95. That's without shipping.

IMO, better to pay the $199 for the Black Magic fan & thermostat.

^ I got my e-fan from schucks...its just a generic e-fan...got it for $55...then built a shroud out of an old road sign (shhhh)...and bought a switch and adjustable thermostat...about $80 total...THAT is the way to go IMHO.

The fan that VB sells is the same one sold at some parts stores. Stay local, it's much cheaper. Iirc it is an Imperial fan. After driving down to VB and buying one, I went to the local Advanced Auto and they had the same fan, for much less.

hehe mine doesnt have a shroud but i guess i could get one for it. the cars old shroud wont fit on with the fram we used to mount the fan

yes i got ripped off but i didnt know other stores would have the fan , how much horse power do you gain by switching to electrical fans rather than using the stock fan, do you gain any horse power?

I'd say if it's working, don't worry about it, but it will work even better with a shroud.

Power gain? Probably not much, but I can see how throttle response would be improved.

pontiac fiero works just as nicely. enough CFM's; roughly around 1800 IIRC. and it only cost less than $20 at your local junkyard

I wanna try out the 3.3 caravan e-fan. Less bulky than the fiero or the taurus. but I need a volunteer.

Will that even pull the air through your radiator? You want the fan as close as possible, so that you can pull air through the radiator.
