Ok my dad picked up some things to do a small tune up on my car so i went over to his house and the sparkplugs he had were autolite i asked him if they had the ngk ones i read you guys talking about here and he said yes but he chose these because he liked them better . Well my question is should I go out and by the ngk ones and can you tell me what the whole difference is because i thought i read that they should only be used on the rx7 but i dont really know why it would make a difference that much what kind you use so if someone could explain thanks.

 

GO BUY THE NGKS, AND DO NOT RUN THE VEHICLE WITH AUTOLITES....EVER!

seriously dude, autolites are crap, i have a whole story about that, but i don't want to go into it, you will not find a guy in this entire forum that would use autolites over ngks

the ngks are also a 4 electrode design which is a bit more efficient

 

the only insite that i can provide is that in my not rotary car....my pickup...the differece between autolite plugs and ngk plugs ...same heat range...is i can burn out with ngk but not with autolites....might be a rare case but i know it happens on my truck.

Not to mention, if you have a 79 and earlier rotary, and put the wrong plugs in, you will destroy your rotor and apex seal from contact between the spark plug and the rotor....

Autolites are cheaply manufactured plugs for the "budget minded buyer."

There is a reason the factory recommended only 2 spark plug types: NGK and DENSO. I think the engineers knew what they were doing when they chose these 2 plug makes.

 

in regards to being able to burn out with ngks, well they will run better in import vehicles than autolites, but id probably put autolites in a ford before i would an ngk (autolites are made in the same factory as motorcraft)

Autolites are made in the Honeywell plant in Fostoria, OH. Autolites are the only thing produced there. Motocraft spark plugs may be owned by Honeywell, but are not produced in the same plant, and I believe they have there differences.

..... mine has AUTO LIGHTS the orignal owner put them in the car... but i have some NGK on the way! My dad said autolites were made by ford and mazda recommends them? I said NO way only NGk so we got some

can't remember the stocking number off the top of my head, but the parts dude should be able to figure it out by that

mazda does NOT reccomend autolites, at least not in any rotary. Denso and NGK are the only way to go, and i've heard denso's are actually a bit better. I've run both denso and ngks and have never noticed a difference.

Some people run the fc plugs in 12a's and first gen 13b's. Though generally better to run the br8eq-14's i would say you're better off running bur7eq's and bur9eq's over the autocrappers. I actually have the bur7eq/bur9eq's in my car right now, they were the closest thing i could get when i was at work after i flooded my car badly.

 

So autolites will actually wreak my engine? Do you think it has done any damage after 1 day? Damn i knew I should've said something before he bought the stuff.......

 

Autolites won't wreck your engine... Sparkplugs, as long as they are the right size and heat range are sparkplugs.

That being said, there is a difference in sparkplug quality, it is possible to see a stonger spark in a NGK than in an Autolite, and a weak spark can cause a whole lot of different problems. Personally I run NGK in everything... and IMHO Autolite sucks... but I'd run them if I needed plugs and nobody had NGK's...
