Why wont my starter come out!

ok guys i just bought this 85 rx7gsl from a freind at work! and the starter was bad! so as i am uninstalling the original starter, first thing i notice is that there wasnt any bolts visible holding the starter in place! so i tried moving it a lil and it wiggled alot but never came off! my first reaction was since the car is pretty old that the bolts from the starter might have broken and were stuck holding the starter in place, but i stuck a screwdriver to both holes and there seems to be nuthing holding it! is there something im missing here?? any help is appreciated! thnx

Did you look on the other side of the starter?

there is a bolt coming in from the front of the motor and one coming in from the transmission side. You also have to remove the power cable and the cable going to the starter solenoid. If someone doesn't post a picture by tomorrow, let me know and i'll snap a couple after work (it's dark and mosquito-ey here right now)

after you get the bolts out, tap it lightly with a hammer to loosen it. it may be stuck on there from being on there for years.

A plastic hammer or 2x4 works well. You don't want to break the magnets or damage the field coils when you hit it.

Try having someone turn the crank pulley while you try to get it out. It may be lodged tightly against the flywheel teeth, which wouldn't allow for much movement...
