Question Why are Panasport C8-16's "Race Only"?

Hey guys,

I LOVE the Panasport C8-16's which are a modular 3-piece wheel. However on every website I've seen them for sale, they say "race only". Do the rims bend easily? Does Panasport not want them used by the public because they require some kind of maintenance that most people will not perform, to keep them together?

I really like them but if there is a solid reason to not get them I will keep looking. I'm basically looking for a 16x7 or 16x8 rim with a decent sized lip and a mesh or similar wheel face (but not too old school).

Thanks,
Brian

As far as I know there are 2 reasons.
1.) The rims are not DOT approved and therefore not legal to use on the street.
2.) As I understand it, they are susceptible to denting from curbs, potholes, etc.

Well DOT approval doesn't mean as much to me as denting from potholes. I am pretty careful with my wheels/tires as far as curbing (I've never curbed mine) but potholes are another story. We have lots.

Race rims generally are made to bend easily. It's easier to change wheels than it is to fix the suspension if you have contact or an "off".

Also they probably dont have a DOT cert cause some racing wheels dont have a wide enough bead seat.

Haha no I think you somehow tapped into my covert plans to have the baddest first gen around BUT that will be awhile - got to take care of that BADD rust first. Then wheels and flares (and it will be ghetto-fied too.. probably some cheap steel wheels, flares primered on a crappy beat up brown body... sweet!)
