Plywood is porous, it needs to be air-tight, or it adversely affects the 'Q' of the box. Just use MFD, its almost s plentiful, and works great.

That, and the fact that most plywood has knots in it, sap comes out of knots, sap and subs don't mix very well. Just spend the extra few $$ and get MDF

MDF is heavy as hell though . But, since I havent made ANY progress since that last post I think Im just gonna start over with MDF. Ive learned the error of my ways. Its MDF for me. Its easier to work with too, just predrill holes for screws .

If you want to use plywood, just make sure that it is void-free marine plywood. Or, you could just paint the inside of the box to seal it. Plywood is lighter than MDF, and the corners and edges don't chip as easily.

The only reason i ask is that i have a bunch of plywood lyin around, SO if i prime/seal/paint it, and caulk the corners and edges, then it would be OK??

I really don't think it makes a rat's *** what you use, since what you young guys refer to as "bass" is just pure unadulterated distortion anyway (IMMHO - that is).
(Oh ****, bet I hit a nerve there!)

It should work fine if it's sealed, and thick enough to be rigid.
But I must confess, I agree with zookeeper.

We used to use cheapo pressboard back in the day to make sub boxes. I think it's less porus than plywood, but it is a little brittle.
