why are my prescilencers so low
why are my prescilencers so low
i have a full racing beat exhaust in my 79, and the damn prescilencers actually hang below the muffler. this definatly poses a clearence concern (especially since the car will rid a little lower when i get new springs). does anyone else have this problem? how is it fixed?
thanks

Probably just age and heat making the exhaust bow in the middle. Unfortunately it's too late to put stronger hangers on it, so that's just the way it'll be.
On the plus side, putting lowering springs on a 1st-gen usually raises the car up a bit compared to the old OE springs... when they say a kit lowers a car 3/8" or 3/4: or whatever, that's compared to the new, stock ride height. Springs can easily sag more than that (lots more) over 15-20 years. It's still good to replace them because having the car sit too low can cause the struts and shocks to bottom out, which can damage 'em.

What I did was replace my hangers and I fashioned a steel tube to support the middle section (presilencers)... So far they are just fine. I just bent a stainless steel tube (the stuff I took from my dad's NASA work place--this stuff goes on space shuttles
) and attached them to the stock rubber rings... then just put some exhaust tape over the silencer and tube so that they do not scrape the hell outa each other...
