Why do my new Tokico Blues feel so good?
Just put new blues on my 85GSL (70k on the old OEMs) and scooted up winding Page Mill road to the top of the mountain and they were great. Almost as good as my 83GS (which is 200 lbs lighter). Got that nice tight slighly choppy ride (one can spill his tea) but absolutely secure on the tight hairpins.
Why are they better? Theoretically, in a turn the shocks are just dashpots and are ineffective after you've setup your radius. Except for bumps. So it's all in handling little bumps within the turn. And the dashpots (almost) eliminate wheel tramp (unstable suspension oscillations). If the road were perfectly flat you wouldn't need shocks.
That's why the bumpsteer is gone gone gone.

um, because your old ones were so bad?
I don't understand it, the tokico blues really are a good shock for the money. just as good as illuminas and even comparable to a set of Koni's (to a point) on a road-course

Bliffle, next time you get an urge to get up to Skyline, give me a holler. I'm always down for taking the 7 through the turns. Maybe we should get a group of us to get up there like all those motorcycle guys do up at Alice's every weekend...or maybe you already do and I'm just really slow...*****....well its an idea if its not already done....a damn good idea if I may say so myself!!!

I've got nothing but good things to say about my set of Blues, which have served me well over the past few years. Good response without being too punishing in the bumps.

I like my NOS golds. Alot of it is because the Spring rate doesn't over power the shocks. I ran a set of blue/golds on my GTX with 300# front and 350# rear and they were blown in 3 months.
The 7 stock is 100# front and 85# stock rear. I moved to a RB setup with 145# front and 100# rears which I think is to soft still. When I finish the front respeed brake upgrade I thing I am going to switch to 225# front and 200 rears.
Its all about the valving and the Spring rate.

I'm planning on getting a coilover setup and running 200-250# springs but don't know where to go for shocks.

If I had a big enough lathe I could make my own strut tubes. and run a set of MR2/ae86 short stroke shocks from TRD or Tokico Japan.
Anyone want to lathe a strut for me?

Those are the "blues". If you were asking about the race version of the illuminas (used on the rear of the MR2), then this is what you are looking for:

Sorry, but bliffle is correct on this one. Weight transfer would still occur, it just wouldn't be able to cause the car to lean other than the flex of the sidewalls on the tires.

It really depends on how serious you are, what your budget is like, and if you want the car to still be streetable or not....
