Why Is The Carpet Damp Under My Driver side Floor Mat In The Morning?

So every morning (in the winter) I go out to my car, the carpets damp under the driver side floor mat? Is this condensation? Do I have a hole in the bottom of my car? Could this mean rust? How can I find this out without ripping up the carpet?

Do a search, there was a thread about this just a few days ago (like last week some time). There are a few causes of this like cracked heater core,or there is (apparently, consault the thread mentioned erlyer) a removeable panel in the flour on the drivers side that can leek if the gasket that seals it fails.

Driver side wouldn't be a heater core...

What's the outdoor conditions like? Rain, snow, water covered roadways, etc?

I had the same problem, How are your door jams? Mine were rusted near the top hinge. When it would rain or snow, water would leak in there and drip down behind the speaker and under the floor mat. Nothing a little friend of mine, by the name of bondo couldn't take care of.

My parts car leaks from the windshield. I never bothered to check it further though, I'm hesitant to remove the trim piece which, apparently, requires a special tool or something. Water drips right into the fuse box, then on the carpet.

I never even thought of water leaking in from the doors! My rubber trim around the driver side door is all ripped and breaking off (20 yrs old) When I open my door I always notice water on the little plastic trim piece RIGHT NEXT TO THE CARPET! Its probably leaking off the trim piece and onto the carpet then soaking it all up! Im going to look into getting some new rubber trims and see if this fixes it thak you Matty's first 1st Gen!

The above responses sound like you are on the right track. It would not be the ac drain that can come undone as that is on the passenger side. I do not recall a 3" metal circular plug like the other side has either but you may wish to check the underbody for a leak on the floorboard to eliminate that as a possible cause. My passenger side floorboard plug rusted and leaked and the ac drain came out so it was a compound leak.

My clutch master cylinder was leaking brake fluid was all over my carpet. I had to pull out the insulation thats in between the carpet and the floor and throw it away because it was soaked with DOT3.

Junia, the same thing happened to my old near rotted carpet from the leaking master cylinder. I learned to replace the clutch slave cylinder (for next time) at the same time as it went out just weeks after the master. I still cannot get the loud squeak out of the clutch pedal. I hate that Victoria British so called blue fitted (not molded) carpet. Oh well that is how we learn.
