why?!

so guys as some of you know i just turbod my engine... well before i did the swap i had spark... and for some reason now i dont... well i think i dont... i pulled the plugs and i attached to the wire (obviously) and held it while someone was cranking it over and put it close to the bolts on the strut tower and nothing... no spark no nothing... i did that for all the leading and the trailing... so did i do it wrong or is it because i just dont have spark?

so tell me... what i need to get spark and how to test for it... i think i did it right now maybe i didnt... let me know ASAP please thanks

Cory

The plug has to be grounded(touching something) for it to fire.
Its best to hold it directly against a part of the engine, then crank and look for spark.

Is your EGI fuse unhooked/blown?

That should be good enough. if you have a Volt meter. Make sure that you have 12 volts key on, on the positive side of both coils. if not........then just make a temp fix, and jump striaght from the + on the batt to the + on the coil..... and then if not that....well check out your ignitors. (odd that they would both go at the same time thoguh)

Make sure that you keep the plug away from the spark plug hole or you might singe your eyebrows off!

if you have the stock coils just have a look at them. There should be a little positive sign, and a little negative sign.

well if ya have power there, then get a 12v test light (or you might be able to do it with a DmM) but go on the negitive side of the coil with the light grounded(*or the dmm) and crank it. You should see the light flash, or the DMM read voltage. If that works then your ignitors are fine, and if not, then there cooked.

If both of those check out, then most likely the coil is cooked. You can check this but doing a Resistance test. there should be 10k to 30k or there abouts of resistance between the positve and the spark output. ( i belive) check the haynes. And then... if thats good, might be your wire.....

You could always just hook a spark directly to the coil with a spark wire and see if ya get any there....:S.... Lots of options if your confused... just let me know... ill try and explain it better.

lol yeah... i know how you feel.

Yes you can get them in canada. (i live in nanaimo and i got mine over here.) Its fairly easy to hook up. four wires, 2 from the dizzy, where the ignitor goes, and 2 to the coil ( well eight. 4 for leading and four for trailing.)

you have to connect in to where the ignitor goes. Find out what one is positve and what one is negative. ( i belive it says on the ignitor) and then you can either gut the ignitor and run wires from there. Or go straight from the place where the ignitor goes. Your choice. Then wire it up as the FAQ.

Now i dont know if this works my self. But i do get spark...as for getting running.. HA...thats never going to happen my car is ****!!!:S

Check the for sale section or Ebay. They are always around and you can usually pick up stock ignitors cheap. If all else fails, post a wanted add in the for sale section. Good luck.
