I don't have any good pics of how I mounted it, but I'll tell you this, I hate it, it sounds like a garbage disposal running in your trunk. Its seriously so loud that you can barely hear the engine running while sitting in the car. Also the push on electrical connectors that it uses are pretty shitty as well, they don't go on very tight and I wouldn't be surprised if one popped off one day. Maybe you'll have better luck, but as soon as I get a few extra dollars I'm getting something better....

so what's the quietest fuel pump? I don't want anything drowning out my engine or exhaust.

Cool Thanks!

I plan on just running the stock fuel pump to a FPR and see what that does. I really dont like the idea of a loud rumble from under my car. I hate that I hear the fan more than my engine. I cant imagine how I will feel when the fuel pump is up and running. I was told it was loud, but I thought how loud could it be?

Let me know about that Mallory pump. I am intersted in a quite fuel pump, like the stock one.

I didn't like mine either. I mean it worked fine, but yeah it was loud!

From my experience, the Carter was louder than the Holley.

Try a Mallory.

Don't make us put you back in the hatch! I think so long as the linkage isn't screwed up on the other, it might be a bit happier with this top half i threw together last night, but with my luck, probably not.

run a search - if i had time now, i'd do it for you, but i don't. however, i know for a fact that Revhed posted a picture of Carter mounted on one of the unibody rails by where the rear end mounts to the car. it's here. i've seen it with my own eyes.

by the way, i have a Carter, too. they are louder than the Holleys. however, as much as i detest the noise, i have to admit that it's been reliable for the last 4 years.

cheers

Just don't put the extra filter in like whoever owns that car did.

I had mine mounted in that location and it honestly isn't that loud. If you have a decent exhaust you will barely hear the fuel pump.

I put a slightly higher GPH Carter in my GLC, than the one pictured above, and it was extremely loud. Then I put it in my REPU, mounted on rubber standoffs to the frame, and it's very quiet. There's only a buzzing sound.

My other REPU has the one pictured above, and it's the same as far as I can tell. It too has rubber standoffs.

My friend installed a Holley pump in his '82 and it was extremely loud. Then he installed it in an '81, this time with a rubber pad sandwiched between the sheet metal and mounting bracket, and it's a lot quieter now.

Rubber really does something. Try to incorporate it in your next fuel pump install.

I install Carter pumps (not exact same model) on diesel trucks and i find these pumps to be pretty loud. Of course once you start the truck you cannot hear the pump at all, but during key-on when the pump primes you can noticably hear it. Only suggestion is to make sure you use the rubber mounts that comes with it. If you don't it sounds very very loud.
They are very good pumps we have good luck with them just i find them to be pretty loud. On a diesel truck this isn't a problem but a small sports car it may be.

I am going to Run a full RB Streetport Exhaust with this. I was thinking maybe I could install some dynomat on the mounting bracket. To help with the vibration and noise issue.

As long as you can isolate the vibrations from the body, most any pump can be quieted. The rubber bushings that are used on the top of the rear shocks, or the ones on the sway bar end links work quite well.

sorry to change the subject, but would it be a good idea to get a better fuel pump with a stock carb????? i was under the empression that it would just end up flowing too much fuel and bogging down the carb.... but i could be wrong

I dont know I can tell you though after this weekend. I am saving my Carter until I get my tank redone. I plan on just running the stocker to a FPR and see what happens. If it kills my stocker oh well. Its all about trial and error on these cars IMO.

Also I have came up with an idea for making the carter less noisey. I plan on using dynomat on all the mounts along with rubber washers to help stop vibe's and ratt's to help keep the noise level down. I have seen a sound proof car use it so why cant I make a low noise fuel pump with it.

I too was wonder about the install locatio. I received mine today and I was wondering if you have to install it on the frame rail? I was thinking you could drill holes is the floor pan where the storage bin is and mount it directly to the car without the bracket. Just drill 3 holes the size of the holes on the bracket and use the rubber grommets and bolt it directly in? Does anyone know if this would work? Thanks.

P.S. - Sorry about hijacking the thread, didn't want to start one and all my searches didn't come with anything like this.
