When trting to figure out the design of the rear tail lights of the SA I think we all need to remember that the license paltes for the countries that they sold in first were different then our in the U.S.A.
And don't forget, when you remove those few 10mm bolts from the inside of an FB and remove that center section between the FB lights it looks almost like a SA, so the FB wasn't so much of a redesign just a redecoration, if you will. LoL

Most S2/S3 cars (what you guys call FB, but for us in Europe the FB tag was only used on S3 cars) overhere came without the center-pieces. I added one to my car because I don't like the look without, but most cars have the license plates mounted there. EU-spec bumpers have upward facing license-plate lights, and no cut-out at the underside of the bumper.

the SA tails give a unique look, and an older look to the car, which it is. It has an old school look to it with those tails, that the FB tails just dont have, they're way too complex looking for a car with as simple and elegant lines as the SA/FB.

IMO, the SA > FB in all respects EXCEPT for the brake thread pitch difference (dont even get me started on that crap)

SA's also got the better looking dash (well, all 79-83 got them) instead of the *** ugly 80's style 84-85 dash :vomit:

edit:

its just so.... elegant and old school (it looks a lot better with a plate in there though) I'd never trade a SA for an FB... i might use an FB as a winter beater though, as they're so much more plentiful.
I feel the same way. I also love the up/down headlight switch, and the Big Shifter.

And ^^ Sweet looking car.

The way I see it, each iteration of the rotary engined car has something sexy about it.

The SA's have that old time, hard core speed look to them.

Same thing down here in Argentina.

Rotor wheels, no center piece and a lil round turn signal above the rx7 emblem on the fenders.

IMO: If the '79 - '85's had all been FB, then all the front and rear bumpers would have looked civilized and there wouldn't have been any real need for body kits until '86 when the FC needed something to make it look less like a stripped down Ford Probe.

i like the smaller side moldings on the SA, and i don't mind the bumpers either, i just prefer the FB taillights... I'd drive either one though..

Well since we're on the subject of taillights, there is one practical downside to the SA taillights in that the inside of the car can be accessed by removing one.

I like the taillights and "dash"(not the inst. cluster) in the SA better.

I would trade my 85gs+$ for a 79 in the same shape.
