white smoke....

hello all, lately with the choke pulled on start up I've been getting clouds of white smoke. It's been coming from the middle of the car, but i know that is from the shot exhaust, (got a brand new racing beat system waiting to be installed .) Anyway, does this smoke mean my seals are shot and it's time for a rebuild? Thanks in advance for all your help.

usually when the water seals are shot, the egine will run hot and may overheat. it could be a slow leak into the combustion chamber, which can cause the white smoke. monitor your antifreeze. remember, its colde and it may just be the hot exhaust showing itself like steam.

ya, he could be right. be carefull not to let it overheat. if you do that, you will be in for a rebuild soon.

Its fun to play a prank on your Rx7 friends, and put diesel fuel in their tank. Hop in the passenger seat, and when they start it up, it smokes like no tomorrow...

"Damn man, looks like your engine's toast."

::driver cries::

.....gets 'em everytime.

the factory reccomends 10W40 for colder temps.

I would go to at least a 10W30 for cold but not quite freezing temps. Here where the temps are typically -15 to -25 Celsius, I use 5W30.

My 82 RX7 started blowing white smoke for 5 to 10 minutes every time I started it and would only fire on one rotor for about a minute or so till it *cleared* it's lungs. It WAS a Leaky O ring failure. This IS the fix I appled that worked like a charm.
