Where is the model listed?

I'm looking at buying a 1981 rx7. However the owner said that he does not know which model it is and that it doesn't say on the car. Where should he look to tell the model?

81-83 only badged the GSL models. If it doesn't have the GSL badge on the roof piller behind the door glass, about all you can do is guess based on options.
Sunroof usaully indicates either a GS or GSL, but not always.
Rear disc brakes was only offered on GSL.

A tip BEFORE you decide to buy her. Run a carfax report.

If it has manual mirrors, it's an S model.

No sun roof and only two spoke steering wheel, it's an S then.

sounds like you've found your trim level. you can always add some of the options that the GS and GSL has. the electrical connectors and holes for options are most likely there you just have to dig a tad.

Hey I am not trying to threadjack, but what is special about the S model? I heard it was lightened, but what about motor and tranny and rear end? Are they geared the same? Is there any performence difference between an S model and a different model of the same year? Other than the obvious lack of lsd and rear discs.

An S is only slightly lighter, due to the lack of options installed. Otherwise, it's just a stripped down model.
