All right finnaly getting around to wiring up my electric fan and was wondering if it was better to measure the temp (with laser thermoter) at upper rad hose or somewhere on the block?

I would say it would be best to measure temp with a probed gauge, in the block.

A laser thermometer isnt really accurate for engine temperature at all.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?

My probe is near the bottom radiator hose. Afterall, that's where the coolant returns to the engine. I then set the fan thermostat to hold the engine temp at 180* using an aftermarket temp gauge with the sender in the stock position.
