Where are the ignitors located?

I've got to replace atleast a trailing on a car that is not mine. I don't have the books for the car. I'm going to be heading out to the junkyard to try to get some and since it is actually cold for once, I'd like to know where to look before I actually get there . Also, any odd tools I'd need to bring with me outside of a standard set?

Thanks

On the front and back of the distributor. Little black boxes with electrical connectors on top.

You should only need a Phillips head screwdriver, and possibly 10mm socket and ratchet.

a 12 and 14mm wrench are good so you can move the alternator out of the way

10mm socket and rachet to remove the bolt and just pull the whole distributor up. Small phillips screwdriver to remove the ignitors. Heck you'll be at a junkyard.. pop as many as you can! Bring all metric tools.

Just telling you the same thing as the other told you. Both ignitors are on each side of the distributor.

- Unscrew the two philip screws holding it on (each has two).
- Then unplug the top clip.
- Finally unplug them from the distributor.

Simple and easy.

On a related note, how hard is it to pull a motor? Another guy I'm going with is debating some new bookends .
He wanted me to find out, I'm thinking it's not worth it.

10, 12, and 14 mm wrenches and sockets will get it out. Maybe a 15 or 17 for the exhaust, unless you yank the manifold and leave it in the car.

The ignitors for 1980 models are remote-mounted in a little box on the driver's side fenderwell, in case you run into that. I believe the ignitors are the same, though.

Custom signatures are enabled, but any graphics used in such signatures are limited to a 20K file size.

Signatures should be less than 460x200 in size, or no more than 10 lines of text. Combination image/text signatures should have no more than 5 lines of text.

There is currently no system to automatically check for these limits, so Admins and Moderators will be checking manually. Should your sig be found in violation, it will be removed without warning. It is your responsibility to then edit the sig and bring it within compliance. If you don't know how to edit an image and bring it under the 20K or 460x200 limit, don't use it! Figure out how to edit the image first or it will be removed.
