i just wanted to know where everyone shifts at. and how long peoples engines are lasting if they really give it hell all the time.

i swear my old engine saw about 12k once, i was kinda stuck in the mud, so i was pissed. i had it in neutral and i just jammed the gas as hard as i could and it got stuck, and i didnt realize what was giong on till about 7500 then i turned off the key, but it went WAY past 8 i could hear it still giong. i was scared, and about a month later i blew a rotor.

3500 to 4000 for normal driving...
7500 when racing
My accel cable got caught once and I know the engine saw way past 8k...
Odo reads 175k so far, I hope more to come

Mine saw well over 12k once, someone told me when i first got it rotaries could rev forever so i just held it to the floor for about 7-8 seconds. Never harmed it though.

someone had a post on here awhile ago about a college that did an experiment on a stock mazda 12a rotary. they took it to 15k and held it there untill it poped, but i think it took like 10 or 15 mins 15k untill the metal acutally started to melt, i forgot the exact story but it was something like that. just insane

Daily driving i go 3700-4700 cept when i pass cars... as for racing i usually just go 6500-7500 because the car gets its max hp at 6k i don't see any point in keeping it much farther past that unless it is a really close race.
I kick my cars ***. I am gonna be pretty blunt about it. I drive it like i hate it and i drive 45 minutes into town and the same distance back everyday. This car sees a lot of country roads and drifts a lot. Donuts and just plain showboating are also seen a lot in this car. I have an RX-7 and even though i love to keep it looking nice and such, cars are meant to be driven. And i drive my car like an RX-7 should be driven.
As for mileage on my car it has 86k.

yeah, I'm supposed to keep my new engine under 4k for a while, but its so hard when those 6 ports fly open at 3800, and then the VDI kicks in at ~5600. Below 4k is just no fun.

I shift at 6500 when I'm getting on it, otherwise, 3500-4000.

5-7.5k is my usual shifting point. The lady has 170k miles, and she still purrs like a kitten after beating the crap out of the motor. Only negative I see is that the motor gets hot. A couple weeks ago, I got all toasted, and on three seperate occasions, I pushed the accelerator to the bottom, and just held it there. My tach wasn't working at the time, but I don't imagine it whirred past 8.3k, ever since I bought the car, she tends to revv out before 8.5k.

I shift usually at 3000. Sometimes 2000-2500, and even more rarely up to 4000 if I'm in a big hurry.
Racing is obviously a different case.

you know what kills rotarys? low and high revs.....
high revs are just plain dumb.... if the 8K tach cant read it, your revving too high unless you have a bridgey with hardened gears and racing seals... thats been balanced.......... never go over 8.5 on stock seals.......
and anything under 2K.... a great rotor head told me this... if you never rev it and keep it under 2K its bad...
cause if you put LOAD under 2Krpms, you highly risk cracking a seal......... so when i get going, i rev it to 2K and ease out the clutch until im all the way off and cruising at 2K rpms then i accellerate... or i rev it to about 3500-4500 and dump it... hehee.... that is whenever i drive the stupid rx7's....

BTW, On a stock port, you're not going to get any more power after 7000 rpm. No sense in passing that unless you just want to hurt her.

I had a 13b 6 port with headers, dynos showed engines with headers are still making power after 7k. My engine was fine by the way, i was missing 2 corner seals (one on each rotor) seems like someone got lazy rebuilding

It really was, seals were in perfect shape, just had those two missing corner seals, how else would those be missing unless someone didn't put them in?

I typically shift at 4k rpm during day to day driving, and at 6800 rpm during autoX events. Anything more is a waste, at least on a stock motor like mine.

i shift at 2-3k daily and 6800-7300 when racing. the other night i took 4th gear to 7500 when racing my friend in a 85 bmw 325e. pulled on him sooo slow (only reason i took it that high because i didnt want to shift and fall back)
one time at an autox, they had a weird finish box, and i had to put her in first because second bogged down the first time around. it wasnt far enough to shift into second, and i was so close, so i held it to the floor.. i pegged out the tach.
shes still running with 148k, but shes starting to smoke on start up.
edit: when i dyno'd my car, she was still making power at 7k when i shut it down. i guess it depends on the mods done if it pulls past redline or not.
