Not the most creative idea, but the easy and practical way for me was to remove the tape player and slide a CD player into the spot:

Just Curious, why not the center console? It's not like our cars are "Vintage".
If you get the right type/matching style of Radio, it would look fine in there.

^^^not to mention that if its not in the stock location, it would be a pain in the neck to operate smoothly..and the center section may look awful strange without a radio.. pull the radio and look at the absurdly large canyon left when removing the oem head unit combo

+1. I have an aftermarket radio where the old Clarion was and there is still a large opening that bugs the crap out of me.

+1 on center console. My deck matches my car perfectly. Looks like it was there originally with how it fits in .

if you would have read the first post lol. cause i can. kinda like a V8 swap... yeah... dosent make much sense but it isnt what everyone else is doing i mean look at it this way. it would suck really hard if everyone had the same color car as you right ? but i will agree that a matching style radio looks pretty nice too.

that is mainly why i wanted to go with a different place then the factory location. remotes help solve the out of the way locations. taking appart the factory head unit hadnt even occured to me until i saw it here. very clever.

I think I have seen some good set-ups on here with a radio on the bottom, and then the top half they custom cut aluminum for a 3 gauge pod that went pretty well with the ***** and clock above. that is what I want too, but I want it to look good.

Well if you just want to screw practicality in the name of being different then here's a few locations I doubt have been done:

Engine bay on firewall
Under carpet below pedals
Inside gas tank
Underside of sunroof
Rear passenger side wheel well
Inside another vehicle

Some ideas may take a bit more fabrication than others.

You could make a pod to replace the dome light and put it there. Different but still usable

+1 could always try in the middle of the steering wheel, now thats practical, think about it you don't have to move your eyes from the road and its easy to reach

that would be cool, then you could put some sort of usb jack for an I phone or a memory stick. remote on the steering wheel to control it or have a few buttons on it just for a basic set up. something like that you might be able to fab up pretty easy. wiring would be a pain cause you would have to run down past the A pillar or something like that. but very doable. i wonder if anyone has tried it here.

+1 on the remote on the steering wheel, that would be pretty handy. << and >> buttons on each side of the wheel so you could skip tracks while on the track!
