Where did all the good carb builders go?

Ok, is there anyone still building first gen carbs? (Paul Yaw, Sterling, Etc.)

Thanks

I know a guy who did my nikki. SPR (Sams Preformance Racing) aka Bad83 hooked me up with an awesome nikki/CAI combo.

Yaw apparently only builds for a few racers anymore. Sterling and Carl haven't been on a lot but are still doing work. I've been doing rebuilds for the local area guys who can bring thier cars in.

ok thanks.

We have works on a few carbs in the past but hate to. And well now I have two that I would rather have built, but they will be on stock port motors and want to keep the choke and cruise.

+1 for Sterling.

I spoke to him recently and he's definitely still modding Nikkis. He's got his own reasons for not posting here as often as he used to, but still responds to PMs and emails.

So PM him or email sterling@sterlingmetalworks.com and he'll hook you up

And the website is down for construction, but should be pretty cool once it's finished I'm told

Jon

Sterling and Carl had BETTER be around! I sent out a carb and $300 around Thanksgiving!

eMail Sterling. He's always quick to respond. (Day or two turnaround on eMails.)

He should have pics of my nasty old carb on his website for illustrating shipping instructions... I way overkilled the packaging.

Carb was ziptied to a 2x4, shoved inside a double wall box and surrounded with cut cardboard spacers to stop it from shifting around... Took that box and sealed it, then put it inside a trash bag and sealed the trash bag to stop any flammable vapors from setting off any of UPS'es detectors... Then all that was crammed in a TRIPLE wall box with packaging peanuts...

You went to town on shipping. I think I'll do that when I send Sterling or Carl a carb.

Yeah, I corresponded with Sterling this past spring about carbs and he's most definitely still building carbs. I decided to go with Webers due to time constraints but if I had to do it over again I'd probably go with his setup. My Webers still aren't working consistently on the track and were a chore and a half to get into working condition. They do look sexy, though.

What Weber do you have? I am looking towards a 48IDA.

Actually I payed Sterling in full about 3 weeks, ago, if not longer, but he was backed up until this month, so he should be starting on mine soon, if not already. Email him, he's lightning fast with reply's and knows what he's doing. dennis@sterlingmetalworks.com

I get in trouble for doing business here. email me at sterling@sterlingmetalworks.com, and I'll get back to you.
Currently I'm working on clearing out more shop space (we moved recently, so every thing's piled up in MY space ), working on clearing up carbs queued in order, and working on the website.
I see I have a few emails to answer tonight.

Please don't go ripping off your carb in anticipation of sending it to me. I have a new exchange policy that customers will need to read first. If you want a Sterling but your stocker is crapping out on you, I'll do my best to help temporarily remedy the problem by email.

I have a stress fracture in my wrist (no, not from ). It's making work difficult, and making me feel like an old man!

Visit my site later in the week for a full update, folks.

Thanks.

I love my Sterling carb. Kicks butt whether I'm driving to work or running autocross (not that there's much difference between the two)!

yep, I had a stripped down one a while back and sold it as I used the stock one for the cruise and choke. Now wish I had kept it.

I have two 36DCD's. They're a very nice improvement over stock, with more potential flow than a 45 but much nicer cruise and part-throttle operation thanks to their progressive action. The trick is getting them synched and tuned, particularly since these were very dirty and mistreated when I purchased them.

+1 to this. Robert fully modded and turbo prep'd my nikki and it was amazing. He recently did a full tune on my Weber 48DCOE and that came out even better. I recommend him.

No offense to Robert, who I'm sure does great work, but for modding Nikki carbs, Sterling and RX7Carl did a shitload of testing and research to back up their mods. For a non-turbo Nikki, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

^Definitely. If you're looking to continue to use the Nikki then I'd go with Sterling; however, if its a boost situation you want with a blow thru setup, Robert is your guy. Especially if you don't care whether the Nikki stays on or you go with something else.
