Interior and spot lights are supplied constant 12V whether car is on or not. A Blue/yellow wire supplies this 12V. The clock, key lock lights, hazards, amplifiers and, if you hook your aftermarket head unit to a non-stock location, even the radio is on the same circuit. The overhead light console is grounded with one of the mounting screws. Make sure they are screwed in fairly tight. It sounds like the ground or one of the power wires are not making good contact. Check the metal holder for the main overhead light. Each end is held in place by a single rivet which often comes loose. Here is a picture of the back of the overhead console. It shows the connection points for wiring a radar detector, but you can see the wires. The unlabeled Black/red wire comes from the door switches. The fuse that protects that circuit is the second from the front on the left side of the fuse box, labeled hazzard.

If turning it on "shorts" the clock (undervolts it, actually), you likely have a short to ground between the switch and the bulb.
