Where is it???

Can someone tell me where the air pump is......I am a little stupid. My car is a 1985 Base model with a 12a engine
I need to hook my cat up to it to pass emmisions.

Also.....What is the pump used for in the first place......?

it's on the passenger side of the engine compartment, toward the front. it's belt driven, so there should be a belt connected to it's pulley. if it's not hooked up, you should still be able to find it - it's the only belt-driven accessory on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

it's used to feed fresh air to your cats. from what i understand, catalytic converters need oxygen to do their job, and the rotary passes almost zero oxygen at idle.

and if i'm not mistaken, air goes from the air pump, to the ACV (i think), to the cats.
