Question Wheels fall off?

I'm curious...
How many people have had any of their wheels separate from their RX while in motion? Which wheel? What was the cause? I do remember reading of a few people having this problem.
I've had the misfortune of having my 81 RX7's rear left wheel fall (at 75 mph)about about 8 years ago. The apparent cause of my problem was that the bearings froze up and the entire brake drum, spline and wheel went their own way. The 7 has since moved from daily driver to behind the barn to a parts car for my resto-almost-complete '84 GS.

I'm asking because maybe this is fairly common. I'm going to be on the road again pretty soon with my resto project and was wondering if there was some type of preventative maintenance/reliability mod I should perform to make sure this doesn't happen again!!

Thanks!

I've had mine come REALLY close, lost 2 lugs and the other 2 were barely on there when I stopped. The cause was people ******* with my car.

i had on fall off once. i thought someone had been ******* with my car, but it must of been me not tightening them down enough. the stock lug bolts only went in 5-6 threads which made me iffy. i coverted the rear to studs so i dont have to deal with that.
