Wheel bolt weirdness...

Ok first off, as usual I did search extensively, but with no luck. I have a 1978 RX7 Savanna GT from Japan...it came with 2 sets of wheels. One set is some 13's that are Avex brand I believe? In order for these wheels to mount I need a very strange looking lug bolt that has a centering type shank on it, the shank goes into the wheel and the lug bolt itself has a FLAT seat not conical. Everywhere I go i'm told those type of lugs don't exist...I like the wheels and want to polish them up and get some new tires, but i'm not gonna bother if I cant get lug bolts anywhere. I've tried the dealership, a few tire places, and I work at NAPA, we have nothing like it...anyone have any ideas? I can take a pic and try and post that later tonight so you can see what I mean...just hoping someone else might know what I'm talking about.

Thanks,
Colin

I have no idea what you are talking about by the description, but if you get a pic I'm sure I'll be able to help you out...

Sounds like you are describing plain old school shank type lug nuts. These are generally not available in a bolt form, but you can use screw-in studs, and standard shank type lug nuts with the washers on them.
If this is not what you are needing, post pics.

I might have what you need from my old 79. We placed those with screw-in studs to use some alum rims. I think I saved the old bolts like you might need. I'll check later tonight and post a pic of what I have.

The Brand is Almex, and I've been looking for another set. The current set I'm getting I'm planning on powdercoating but I'd still like another one to keep silver.

Wanna sell em?

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong ones. I was thinking they were black not silver. In any case I jumped on this thread to help ColinMc first. If I have what they need I'd deal with them first.

Your not talking about the 79-80 lug bolts are you? They are longer then the 81-85 lug bolts. I have a set of american racing rims that used the 79-80 long bolts. Hmmm...I guess that means my wheels are really old in retrospect, but look nice and work good- black center- with polished outer rim section.

Pic time finally! OK NOW maybe you guys will understand what the heck i'm talking about. The cylindrical part actually goes INTO the wheel itself...if that makes sense lol. Kind of like a centering shank type deal...

That's just a shank type lug nut commonly used on "Old school" wheels. These days, you will need screw in studs, and the lugs. There is a washer that goes between the hex head and the wheel, over the shank. Any tire shop should have those lug nuts, the studs may be a little harder to find.

Oh ok, but does anyone have any of these laying around? I'd love to just replace the missing ones if possible.

Here's a pic of one of the wheels i'm in the process of polishing up, the center kind of webbed area is a strange gold finish, while the rest is just polished aluminum. Not sure how original these are? Still looking to buy those Lug Bolts if anyone has got em...so I don't have to do the nut and stud conversion...

I have never seen those wheels before. I retract my previous guess that you have the rare almex wheels.

I'm going to assume they are custom drilled track wheels. By the way the center looks it must be a simple cookie cutter mass produced wheel that could easily be drilled for anything.

How do they look on the car?

They are in fact Almex wheels, it's stamped right on in the inside of each wheel. I also have a set of Speed Star wheels that use the regular conical seat lug bolts...so I might just use those instead...I like the way these Almex ones look though, plus tires are tons cheaper for these...The interior has a little ways to go yet, and a paint job is the next project in line, once those two things are done i'll really start worrying about the wheels. But if anyone happens to come by this thread and has the weird shank style lug bolts lying around, let me know for sure!
