What's the widest rear tire size you have seen
I'm going to install my Granny 8.8 rear end this weekend and was told I could run 10" wide wheels after I am done. What size tires could I run with that? 275/50/15's.. What's the widest rear tire size you have seen on a street driven 1st gen??

Thats ginormous. I can't wait to see it man. That will be sweet. How's the turbo working?? What wheels you plan on getting for it?? I know dan s young has some really wide rear tires.
I was dissapointed that I actually rub with just 245's out back.....granted the Mariah kit isnt the widest out there, but the real issue I have is actually rubbing on the inside wall.
Since our solid axles will tilt when diagonally traversing a bump...(like going up a driveway) the compression side will always rock the top of the rear tire inward. The negative camber is enough that my tire will rub the inner walls of the fenderwell when I enter and exit my moderately steep driveway.
And the solid rear axle has another caveat.....when driving straight ahead, the rear tires dont camber-in under compression like an IRS,so I actually get light contact on the edge of the fiberglass fender,at the relatively wide interface between the fiberglass and the stock steel. That rules out anymore tire width to the outside!......so basically, unless I run smaller circumference wheels and tires (I like the 17" wheels, and the tires CANT get any smaller)......Im stuck with 245/35-17's out back and 1" drop, RB deadwound springs.

These... (315/35/17)

I'm still tempted to put some 335/35/17 mickey thompson drag radials out back to see what would happen.
On a different note I ordered my differential from Grannies this week Steve. GSS 8.8 TA/SA, Stock SE length (so I can run huge lip), 4.30 gears, 31 spline axles, custom driveshaft to mate up to the TII trans. ford caliper brackets, coilover option. Can't wait until it gets here, sure emptied my pockets though.... For brakes out back i'm looking at getting a wilwood 12.2" rear brake kit I found on hotrodsusa.com.

Some one posted this link, so I was playing around with tire sizes the other night. Right now my speedometer is too far off for my liking because of the tire height.
You can input the oem wheel and tire size and the new wheels, then play with different tire sizes to see how they will fit. Plugging in the 15X10" SSRs that will be going on the back of the wide body, I may be able to fit a 305/35/15 and have the speedometer read only 0.8% faster than actual vehicle speed. This tire has a 12" cross section, should hold a bit of power, if it will fit.
What will fit on your widebody is going to depend on how far your over fenders stick out, backspace of your wheels and where the hub mounting flange falls within the wheel well. If you have or make a plumb bob, you can draw up a cross section of you wheel well, then play with the link and your wheels to see what will fit.

Those 19's look good, a bit too tall for my taste, but they work. Looks like you're going to be cutting out the fenders lips and adding flares or some wide over fenders.
I am running 17x8 5zigen wheels on the back. The tires are 235/40/17 RT 615s. The wheels are a +38mm offset. The fenders are rolled and the edge of the tire has about 1/4 inch clearance from the inside edge of the fender The backside is much better as it has probably 1/2 inch clearance. This is on a stock body 82 with Eibach springs on the back lowering about 1-1/2inches. The axles are the REspeed Morser SE axles, so figure that in when doing a setup. Typicallly +_40mm for the SE cars I believe.
Serioiusly I dont think I could even fit a 245 on the back with out starting to rub the inside of the fender. BTW the widebodies look nice!!!
