whats a watts linkage?

whats a watts linkage?
What is the watts linkage for? Is it like a traction thing, like the way traction bars work?
why isnt there watts on 2nd gens?

watts links and panhard bars are used on cars with a live rear axel, like a FB. It keeps the rear end from moving side to side. a FC has independant rear suspension, so it wouldn't need one.
