Whats the ticking noise?uurrrr
K.Started a couple days ago.Heard this tick tick tick when I would put in the clutch and slow down. But now its doing it all the time though the ticking is faster once i put in the clutch. It got worse since 2 days ago.I tried different things.reved the engine while not going thinking it was fuel pump but doesnt tick. But one thing I did notice is if i get a little air or go over a bump.when im in the air the noise stops then starts again right when i land(im not gettnig total air launching my car, just trying to explain it).Anyone have any idea? Also it will tick then when i slow down it slows down and stops when i stop.like this: tick.tick.tick..tick..tick...tick...tick....tick.. ..tick........tick.......tick..stopped.
I can only think of 2 things.brakes or my rear end. I stripped my interior.and when i feel behind my were the bins use to be thats where i can fill the most.right in the middle half way down the metal. I felt the top near spare tire and couldnt really feel the thumping.
Let me know what you guys think.THANKS!!!!

I read your email
Maybe there's a baseball card stuck in the spokes.
I dunno.... perhaps a shield or something is hitting the tires or driveshaft and when you "get air" the suspension drops enough for the noise to stop. Have you jacked up the car for inspection? That's what I'd do at this point.

id suspect brakes first, or possibly bearings, then you can always disconnect driveshaft from tranny and jack up the car and spin the shaft by hand and see if it is rear end or not.

my mum's mazda astina was ticking heavily on deceleration, although when i put the clutch in it almost stopped. It never ticked on acceleration though......Well i knew it was the gearbox right away. What she got it looked at, the guys in the shop said over $1000 to fix, so we just got a new used gearbox. Apparently the teeth on the gears were SEREWED, i hope it's not similar and is just , as said b4, a baseball card.
Doesn't seen 2 be the same thing, but just thought i'd tell my tick... tick... tick... story.

try checking your belts your alt might have come loose. I found that out when I tested the new belts on mine, I had not tightened the alt enough and th belts loosened and it started to tick.

I jacked up my car yesterday and looked at everything and everything looked just fine.thats why im so frustrated. and the noise is coming from the rear so its no belt or anything.
Also I read about U joints and it says when they are bad you get vibration.I dont have any vibration.

I put my car on jackstands today in the rear and I started the car and let it go.Found out that the noise is coming from the middle front(front u-joint)...So I think it is the front u joint.thing is when i drove it other days I didnt feel vibration so didnt think it was the U-joint.But when I had my car on stands and ran it I felt the vibration!!!!
So what kind of play is there not suppose to be? Because when i shake the driveshaft left and right now play. But I can actually turn the driveshaft about 1/8th or so.
Thanks for all the help guys.Didnt have much time so I couldnt take off the shield. Is the shield even needed?I was thinking when I take it off just to toss it.

Bad U-Joints come in two styles....
1) Loose
2) Frozen.
Frozen U-Joints will cause nasty vibrations...
Loose U-Joints can cause clicking
You shouldn't have very much play at all...
If in doubt, pull the driveshaft and have it checked out.
