Look for 8 x 1.25 about an inch long. Go to a hardware store for these. Oh, and that is the american measurement. If you try to use standard thread bolts, you'll trash your hood.

Yeah, I'd guess that if you're in the states, it must be a ****-off that everything on our car is metric.

Just keep it in mind whenever you're doing work on it, because mixing imperial bits in something made metric can really f*ck things over. But most good parts stores will sell both metric and imperial.

What really irks me are the bolts that have the "9" or the "6" on them.... It always makes me think "9 mm? 6 mm? Oh wait... that's right, it doesn't actually seem to mean *anything* useful"

Yeah, I noticed that too... if it has a "9" or "6" on it, it seems to be the most common bolt in the engine compartment.. holds damn near everything together.

perhaps the "9" or the "6" are an indication of strength of the bolt...hardened not hardened etc.

some bolts also have a number of lines on the top in a circle.. the number of lines also refers to the strength of the bolt..

They might be 8 x 1.0 or 6 x 1.25 or 6 x 1.0. Probably 6 x 1.25.

Just go to a wrecking yard and pull some from another Mazda. I doubt they'd even charge you for them.

Hehe! The closest thing I have to a 1st gen is a GLC. I'll look at the bolts today and give him some proper info.
