I don't think it would take much, just don't get exited and miss a gear.

I beat a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 (twice actually, two different trucks on two different occasions, one was an 06, and the other was an 07. Both had v8s, but the 07 had the Hemi.) I walked all over them up and down the street, by bus lengths, and I have a stock carb.

I think the first thing that would beat him is to say "You're driving a grandma car and you expect me to take you seriously? "

Let's see, that car has a V8 280 (Base) to 290 (LSC trim) horsepower, and equivalent torque. Not sure of how much that thing weighs, but from looking at it, I'd say an easy 3500 lbs. Factor in the weight of your smack-talking buddy, it'd be close.

If you're good with the stick, you should be able to take him off the line and hold it. It always depends on who knows how to drive. That car runs an automatic and just shifts gears right before it hits redline. Our cars prefer we ram that needle into the redline. If you know where your powerband is, you might have a slight chance.

Your car weighs half of the Lincoln and has almost half the horsepower. Lighter is usually better. For every 100lbs that you shed, you gain a 1/10th of a second. Get a good start and keep at it. If you win, gloat in his face. If he wins, well, loud-mouths prefer attention. And teeth. Can always take away both.

My boss had a 97 Lincoln Continental with the Intech 32 valve V-8....basically a Cobra engine with more torque.......it was no slouch.
For a heavy,FWD car it was reasonably quick and had good off the line power and grip. The MkVIII is RWD,which means it might be a little heavier, but the weight transfer is going to work to his advantage.Dont take him too lightly, hes got almost 3 times the torque and only twice the weight(maybe)

BTW,my boss traded the Lincoln in for an 05' Cadillac CTS-V....400hp,6-speed Caddy....much more fun!

Some of those boats are pretty quick. They had a shoot-out up in Jersey not too long ago; the quickest Abraham was in the 10s. Like watching the Queen Mary carry it's bow drag boat fashion. Pretty impressive. On the other hand, if your friend's car is full weight with no mods, it will be slow out of the hole; wouldn't go from a roll though.

Stock 12a runs almost 17's... high 16's with a decent driver... you think exhaust and a carb will shed over a full sec off your 1/4? :|

Tell your friend to try and keep up with you on a road course, or to beat your time in an autocross, then you can make him look stupid.

You're going to lose. Too much torque in those cars.
At a 1/4 mile track is you're only chance of not getting totally destroyed, but you will still lose.

On the street he will rape you.

It sux to lose, but FB's are more than just about speed.

Which generation Mark VIII? The first gens run high 14's stock. While nowhere near fast, they will slaughter any stock N/A rx7 and probably embarrass most stock Turbo II's.
