I would think that holley 600 for a 12a would be fine...I guess it depends of what other mods you have done to the engine too...maybe other guys here in the forum might be able to give you more ideas or maybe something better or that would work better, but thats just my opinion!

There's many carbs that will work on a stock port 12A but as far as all out power goes the 48 IDA Weber is the best out of the two barrel carbs.

ive been thinking about getting the racingbeat holley intake setup. for a stock port '85 12a, Do you think its worth the money. I assume i would also need to add headers to my exhaust. which is okay because my exhaust needs to be completly redone anyway. Is 3 inch too big?

i think it's going to depend on where you like to feel the power ...

i believe Weber carbs probably will give you highest HP numbers, they love the upper RPM ranges and you can feel them tug at your back when you mash it upstairs. but to me, and this is just my opinion, they don't have the same "kick" that Holley's do in the low to mid range.

big 2 brrls suck at low end....they almost flood the car but when its at high rpm its *** kicking... a 4 bbrl gives more all around power...not the top output but all around. im going with the dest of both...dual 2 brrls that are mechnical

I think a Holley 600 would be overkill. It would flood the engine. The best is probably a dual weber or a Yaw carb.

Two barrel carbs don't "almost flood the car" at low rpm... any carb will run poorly if it's tuned wrong. And if you want more low end power and driveability and are willing to sacrifice a bit at the top end you simply put smaller venturies in.

On ported engines I've yet to see anything come close to an IDA in performance. And you only have to look at all the serious racing classes where the IDA is almost the sole carb used...
