what years gold
Hello All and Merry Christmas or whatever you celebrate.
I am trying to find a car that is stuck in my head since my youth. It was either an SA or FB. I think the year was near 1979 or 1980, so it may be either. My memory tells me this car is gold, and I think it had alloy wheels. I do remember driving it and thinking it was so so cool. Now, that was in comparison to all the cars at the time, but I still think they look cool.
Can someone point me towards which years this could have been. I am going to find one and try to scratch that old itch!!! The color was without a doubt gold, not bronze at all, gold .
Thanks for any help
Rich

You're probably thinking of the 1980 LS edition in Solar Gold, with gold-painted "Waffle" alloy wheels.
Both the 79 and the 80 in the US would be "SA" cars; FB series numbers started in 81 and in the US only. Rest of the world, all 1st-gens were "SA"s, but were called out as S1 (steel bumper, rear plate between the tail lights) and S2 (plastic bumper, rear plate below the bumper).

Thank you both for the replies and info. I am happy that I am not the only guy on Christmas looking at cars!!!!!
For some reason, I am remembering the car more gold that the car in the craigslist ad. That one has a bronze hue. In my mind is a true gold color. Now this is from a 30 year old memory.
Maybe it was that special/limited model. I will search google for images. I know I have seen that shade of gold since then though.
Thanks again for the replies

Rich - Pretty well the only truly "Gold" RX7 was the 1980 SA model production run. At least, that would be the closest thing to "gold" color I have seen. The RX Siraniko posted is THAT color. I think the later FB (81-85 model) offered a lighter, beige-y/gold as well, but it was even "less golden" that the 80.
The Craiglist car (also on ebay at the moment, with "O" bids) is pretty expensive for a car with 152,000 mi on her. Obviously if you MUST have Solar Gold, then you have to pay for what is out there.
FWIW the Gold color was also offered on the "standard" models of the 80 RX7 as well: the "S" -base car and the "GS" model, so you don't "have to" buy a Leather Sport ("LS") to get it. But, given the choice and budget, the LS is "the" 80 RX7 to own…
Happy hunting.
There are other Golds out there. They come up for sale several times a year, if you can wait, and know where to look.

Hello all and thanks for all the input. This color is coming from my memory and that is now 30 plus years ago.
I did a search, and see a gold FC, and I am wondering if I am melding fact and memory?
I have no issue with the price of that car, but not with 152000 miles. I would prefer to spend more and get a lower mile clean car. In the long run, it will cost less.
Thank you
Rich
