Have you tried soda blasting them? That might work.

Chemical paint stripper (aka 'aircraft stripper'), or fine-grit sandpaper and a lot of work.

This is what I use to remove powder coating from metal parts. Works great. It does eat plastic and rubber and burns skin.

brake fluid. Works good for most stuff you want stripped. I've had pretty good luck with the aircraft paint stripper too.

It's been a while since I dealt with original moldings, but aren't those anodized aluminum? If that's the case, you have to consider what you want to do with them as a final state. If you want to keep them as bare aluminum, you can sand it off (time consuming and tedious) or you can strip it with oven cleaner (google "stripping anodization"). If you want to paint it, you just need to rough up the surface, then prep it like any other aluminum.

I painted mine many years ago with a base coat / clear coat system, and they still look great.

It wouldn't be tedious / alot of work if he had a mini / 3" DA, compressed air and the right sand paper discs....
