my current exhaust is a racing beat header piped to the stock muffler on my gsl-se, its obnoxiously loud, ive got some straight through muffler im going to put right after the header, then overaxle it to my pre made over axle glasspack i have
im hoping the muffler after the header will quiet it down a bit, plus that stock muffler i have on there vibrates and rattles like a ****, the heat shield "shell" it has is all loose and it rattles as loud as the exhaust is, its rather annoying, lol

I have the VB pacesetter setup. Headers to 2-1/2" pipe (cat removed) all the way back to the muffler. Like the sound and performance. Totally satisfied. It's been on the car for like 3yrs now and still like new.
Oh, the yellow on the inside (as shown in VB picture) only lasts about 500mi. until the carbon deposits take over. Still looks good though.

do NOT get a FlowMaster.... I was given a dual-chamber one for free, simply to replace the stock one that was on my 1st gen when I got it, and it sounds like complete and total CRAP!!! I mean, the sound it puts out isn't all THAT bad, but the really crappy "tinny" sound of a very thin POS muffler... I've heard ricers with "grapefruit shooters" that sound better than this thing.... I HATE IT!!! It's getting replaced ASAP!!!

who says the RB is quiet? i'm in CA with no cats, and a presilencer and my car is way over 95dB at all times. then again I did buy a used RB prima flow. did i do something wrong? lol, kidding

I have RB headers and put in a presilencer and the RB muffler. It was very quiet. So much so that I considered I could spare the presilencer and replace it with a straight pipe and still not be too loud. Sounds deep and nice, and at WOT it does get kinda loud, but good flow.

Stillen mufflers hold up and sound well.
some of them even look similar to stock.
i really want to try the racing beat mufflers personally.
i would also like to hear an apexi dual N1 setup.

WOOHOOO! my parents just moved to SC.. which means i'm switching my car addy over to their addy..... which means i can run straight pipe!!! YIPEEEE! i am gonna try this as soon as my carb **** gets here. lol! WOOOOOO!

I've done a lot of calling around to muffler manufacturers over the last month, and Burns Stainless was the most helpful in their explanation of muffler designs, materials, and durability. This is a synopsis of all the good stuff I learned:
There are a few basic types of mufflers: 1) straight-through absorption (RB, Borla, Magnaflow, Edelbrock, Burns Stainless) 2) turbulence (Spintech, etc.) 3) chambered (Flowmaster, "turbo" mufflers) 4) stacked plate "resistance" (Supertrapp). These are listed from best to worst in terms of free flow (lack of backpressure).
Type 1 will always have some sort of packing and types 3 and 4 often do. Common types of packing are, from highest temperature resistance to lowest: stainless steel scrubble (lathe shavings), ceramic cloth, fiberglass. The sound absorption capability runs in the reverse order, with ceramic cloth and fiberglass being about equal and SS scrubble being much worse.
Rotarys are very hot, and the exhaust cools as it goes down the pipe, so you definitely want a good muffler up front (if you're using one there). Most of the rotary-designed presilencers only have stainless steel scrubble. The Borla XR-1 racing mufflers only have SS scrubble.
Magnaflow (and I think Apex N1) use SS scrubble directly against the internal perforated tube, then surround that with ceramic cloth. This is a good combination for durability and reasonable sound absorption.
I'm working on turbocharging my 13B and I'm using a 3" system with Magnaflow mufflers front and rear. I'd have used a Borla in front, but Magnaflow makes a 4" X 10" oval whose thinner case packages better. I'll let you know what it sounds like when (if ever) I get it running.

It is not a fart can, and it has the stock look due to the twin pipes out of the muffler. Uses stainless steel wool wrapped around the straight through perforated tube. Looks good and bolts right up. Sounds similar to RB. Stainless steel tubing and mandrel bends used between the muffler and flange. On EBay for $140 no reserve.

RB not freeflow because it is chambered?
The perforated tube runs all the way through the 3 "chambers". It is not chambered like a Flow Master. I think RB divided the muffler can into 3 chambers to change the sound of the exhaust.

The only muffler to run on any 7 if you want it to last is a Racing Beat.

The VB mufflers are junk pace setter mufflers. They are ok for anyother car besides a 7 due to the heat a rotary makes.

I'm running no mufflers right now.......I blew them up.....kinda hard to explain. I'm gonna throw the RB mid section on, but I'm gonna search around for something like the one I have, I'm in love with it leave me alone, and am gonna keep that look. www.cardomain.com/id/mazdagslse there's picks on the website of how it looks.
